Wow what a Fringey weekend we had at the
IndyFringe. We were so busy I have not had a chance to post until now. Where to start?
Ok so we started the weekend early on Thursday with the Fringe Parade. My son and I enjoyed marching down Mass Ave juggling our juggling sticks and mingling with other Fringers. The Preview party was the perfect venue to get a sneak peek of all the wonderful Fringe shows and pick the shows to see. My 14yr old made a long list that included The Hefner Monologues, Blunder Construction, New Vaudeville, Tortillo and more. I too planed on New Vaudeville, 7(x1) Samurai, Crossing the Bridge and Sex, Dreams and Self Control. The trick was to plan out our Busking performances (
Juggle Fun) and make it to the must see shows.
We started Friday night at the open stage. My husband, kids, and I enjoyed the whimsical rhythms of Pons and Amo Joy. The kids loved the turtle song. My dear hubby and I indulged in huge plate at Yats. This fueled the perfect amount of excitement for the whole family to be involved in the Fringe.
Saturday my son and I started out the day planning to busk. The weather had other plans. As soon as we arrived on the corner the clouds let loose. So we packed up and ran in the rain to the Earth House were we were thrilled to slip in just in time to see New Vaudeville. Just as promised “Old Time Vaudeville in a new mode” New Vaudeville did not disappoint with 12 different live acts. As the lights dimed and the emcee Krembo appeared on stage in a brilliant white colonel suite, taking the audience on a journey in to the past. Krembo’s beautiful imagery tells of a time past that oozes with nostalgia. In the classic style of the “Refined Vaudeville” Andy Cooper (BMX Bike flatlander) wowed the audience with his amazing balance and skill. I found my self gasping and wanting to cover my eyes sure that he would not be able to navigate the sharp turns on the small stage. In his impeccable skill Andy navigate the turns with easy and upped to stakes with each new stunt. At this point remembering that my son loved his videos and has a trick bike at home I reminded him he better not try any of Andy’s tricks. Krembo’s Juggling, Allan Mercers contorting and whip act trilled us both. Liz-Jezebel Sinfell’s burlesque and Crème de les Femmes Patriotic burlesque was a riot. Joey Welch’s entertaining musical tales slipped in seamlessly in the vaudeville style. Molly Wyldefyre and Amanda Mc Neal were mesmerizing with their exotic belly dancing. John Orr’s music gave the perfect backdrop to the whole experience making us yearn for ride on the Old MONON - The Hoosier Line.
We spent the rest of day Busking and entertaining between shows and toped off the evening with a wonderful dinner at Aesop’s table.
Sunday Part two...
