Making people and ideas findable

I have received many emails this past week from all kinds of stores with their latest promotion for the holidays.

Some of the deals are great- really slim margins of profit (at least it seems) for them on these buys.

But more than that, I saw 2 gems over the past week from JC Penney's marketing team.

The first, was a link on their emails before Thanksgiving inviting you to sign up for a "Wake up call" on Black Friday.
What a great way to capture customer information that you may or may not already have and be able to follow up with customers. But there was only the one little link- and it was part of an overall email offer. I thought this would have been stronger as its own message- not lost in the clutter. It would be really interesting to see what kind of response they got to that offering.

The second, I received this morning. Again, part of a full discount offer- and just a small note up in the top right corner- that says
http://bewareofthedoghouse.com/videoPage.aspx

I've linked it- it's a very clever little mini-movie that showcases product, gets you to laugh and share it.

Again, I think this could have been a great seperate piece emailed out to customers- perhaps with the printable coupon at the end of the online video- the pass along rate would be fantastic.
