Making people and ideas findable

During this econ crunch, we all need to look for ways to stand out among the competition, to make ourselves more memorable. Now that the price of gas has gone down, people are hitting the streets again and making the rounds. As you drive around, what do you notice? Sports cars? Or do you find yourself reading the phone number of the plumber sitting at the light next to you? You have a captured audience in the drivers on the road with you. Advertise your company on your vehicle. However, to make it effective, don't limit yourself to white lettering on the window; add an image that motivates action to call you. A baby, a splash of color or an optical illusion would make people look twice and longer at your ride. Prices for this kind of advertising can be less than newspaper or directory publications.

We are about 40% Kroger now that we have gone community. No real agency work yet, because as with the Vinyl Cafe "we not big but we're small."

Michael, thanks for your comment. I don't know what a toaster is, maybe a Scion? I've heard the insurance risk story as well. Not sure if the credit union's members are still mostly Kroger employees, but I would think that they would want anyone to promote the Kroger brand. If not, I would think that they would want to attract as many new members as possible. How do they attract new members? Do they work with an advertising agency?

I own a toaster on wheels, otherwise know as a first generation XB. I tried to get my business to wrap my vehicle with our info (hey what better than the marketer turning his car into a marketing tool). It was decided that it would be an insurance risk for the business since I would technically be on business anytime I drove. Would still love to wrap the toaster but have not pressed the issue for a few years now.

Hi Shelly! If a business would make it worth my while, I'd let them advertise on my van! Just a thought. When I had my business for nearly 25 yrs, it costed me out the wazoo for advertising. The most effective and cost effective advertising was the stand out schemes we had on the service trucks. That was over 78% of where our calls were coming from as we polled our customers! It made it easier to even look us up in the phonebook as the customer could easily identify the scheme on the truck to that published in the Yellow Pages etc. It made us stand out in the listings for even more effectiveness! Best of luck!!!
