A Light and Fluffy Controversy is Swirling in Indy

What is this Economy coming to?
I should have seen the signs when the shades were drawn for the last time at Bed Bath and Beyond.
Then the lights blinked for a final time at Circuit City.
So now I'm hypersensitive . . . I'm looking for troubling trends at my favorite retail establishments so I can be the first to sound the alarm.
I discovered one this morning that is very serious . . . the Shamrock Shakes have disappeared from the menus at area McDonalds. Now before all you Marketers in SI land start lecturing me on consumer trends and understanding what customers really want, I'll admit this is an emotional post.
EVERY St. Patricks Day my family would recognize the plight of the Irish in our traditionally politically incorrect way by visiting McDonalds for a Shamrock Shake. There is apparently only ONE Indy location selling them this year. Apparently the W. 71st and 465 store is the only one able to thwart McCafe Mocha Madness. And for giggles Iactually found a commercial on YouTube that documented my first solo trek to pick up a Shamrock Shake in 1980: .

Actually I should have given a shot out to them because that's where I heard the info. You really are the SS queen!

I too love the Shamrock Shakes. I love the memory of being a little kid and getting so excited every year when it was time to drive the 30 minutes to a McDonald's, just to get them.

I also took the Shamrock Shakes last Monday morning to the Smiley Morning Show. It was so fun to see their faces, when I showed up with them. It's the little joys in life that make a great memory!

Great...you let the cat out of the bag. Now everyone will be jamming the drive thru line at the 71st St. McDonald's! Think I'll go to Culver's for the $1 Mint Cement Mixer.
