What's in a Christmas stocking anyway?

My husband and I are in the process of developing our own traditions to share with our child(ren) as they grow up. In doing so, we've spent a lot of time recently, talking about what things we grew up with. We have a 2 yr old daughter and this will be the first Christmas she is really aware

Making Magic

I am entering a contest where the prize is a huge giveaway of over $6,000 worth of new HP equipment. There are 50 ways to enter this contest, but I am only entering it once. Mostly, because I believe in the way that this giveaway has been structured. See, the HP Magic Giveaway is giving 50 of the world’s top bloggers a chance to review this equipment and then give it away! One blog I follow (and fellow SI member) is… Continue

Are you in the dog house?

I have received many emails this past week from all kinds of stores with their latest promotion for the holidays. Some of the deals are great- really slim margins of profit (at least it seems) for them on these buys. But more than that, I saw 2 gems over the past week from JC Penney's marketing team. The first, was a link on their emails before Thanksgiving inviting you to sign up for a "Wake up call" on Black Friday. What a great way to capture customer information that you may or may not al… Continue

A missed opportunity? Blog to Book publishing for the non-authors.

My old college roomates and I collaborate on a private blog together. We use it as a means to stay in touch, share some pictures and have a memory for down the road. Anther contributor and I decided we'd like to put together a bound version of the blog, one year at a time and distribute one tangible copy to each one of us for 2008. I found this site http://www.blurb.com - thought, JACKPOT! I can easily 'slurp' our blog into book form, play with some formatting… Continue

The election- some World view. . .

I am very intrigued by the world's view of what our election means. I took some time this morning to look at a few international news stories (mostly op-ed) But very interesting. Russian Pravda Egypt Al-Ahram Iran DailyContinue

Something to inspire. .

As per usual, I was checking the Wall Street Journal online - I usually do this 2x a day to see where the market is and check up on some news not on the regular wire. A headline caught my eye this morning and I had to read. So, is 80 the new 30? I was inspired, not only to continue getting back on track with my running program, but to recognize that with a lot of determination and persistance it is possible to not only obtai… Continue

HFF Film Review: Blessed is the Match: The Life and Death of Hannah Senesh *some spoilers, read with caution*

In Blessed is the Match: The Life and Death of Hannah Senesh, you see her life story through Hannah's eyes and the voice of her mother, Catherine. (A film synopsis is included in the link above). The story is well told and illustrated through a collection of still photographs, interviews with people intimately involved in Hannah's life and well orchestrated scenes shot on a set with actors to further match period footage. In the Q&A with the directo… Continue

What have you done for your neighbor today?

I live on the East side of Indianapolis- while this side of town is 1/4 of all sides of town and a large area at that- it typically has the 'rougher' of reputations. We moved here almost 5 years ago- and I've been actively involved (until recently when life just kind of took over for awhile) in the revitalization committee of our neighborhood association. It's like an HOA without all the rules and dues. Just a monthly meeting of community minded neighbors working to make the area they live a bet… Continue

Just learning about CSAs (Community Supported Agriculture)

As a marketing professional for a publishing group- one of the papers we publish is Farm World newspaper. I don't have a farm background in any way, shape or form. My "farm" experience prior to this job was going to a 4H Fair. So at our offices in Knightstown, I'm the "city girl". Today I learned about Community Supported Ag- which is not only an agricultural movement, but also a bit of an urban movement as well. As many people look into sustainable living- this is basically a co-op of a farm's… Continue
