A Walk Down Memory Lane & Lesson About Life

I spent yesterday helping my sister. She's one of my best friends and runs her own business doing residential cleaning. Her oldest (a Jr. at IU) hates this job of hers and doesn't think she should be "doing that kind of work". What he fails to realize is that along with her husband (who works FT for AT&T), this business my sister runs puts him and his younger brother through college and will probably help pay for their younger sister to go as well! So, yesterday we spent a part of our day d… Continue

A Day In American History....The 2008 Election

2h 25m....That's how long it took me to walk into the church , cast my vote and exit today. You are damn right I took my sticker! Saw a few familiar faces....a few people I recognized from my neighborhood...lot's of mom's toting youngsters...and a guy in scrubs who told me IU hospital gives them 3h to vote...he had taken a vacation day to honor his civic duty. I didn't really complain about the time it took. I actually thought about how many times in my life I wasted at least 2h30m on somethin… Continue

OUTRAGE!!! You Might Be A Doctor...But It SURELY Does Not Make You Smart!

I don't know what the rules about posting AP stuff are on SI, but right now I don't really give a damn! After you read this, you too should be shocked, amazed, pissed off, sad and asking yourself a multitude of questions. I support our 2nd Ammendment that allows us to bear arms...Personally, I don't own a gun and probably never will. I don't have any issue with those that do and 3 of my best friends all have permits and very nice looking handguns...no problems, no issues. I simply choose not to… Continue

It's Like A Car Wreck....You can't help but look!

My days the past month+ a few days have been filled with networking online, interviewing on the phone, meeting for face to face interviews, domestic chores, yardwork, conversations with my 4-year old Pomeranian "Sugar" that just get a "dog smile" and no response and some daytime and night time junk TV. So let me get my daytime talk show story and reality TV show script together for you....Since 2000...I had a baby born at home that I had to deliver in our bathroom...my dad died 11 months after… Continue

US Govt.....No Experience, no problem!

I'll preface this blog by stating that I'm not heavily into politics at all....I pay attention more now that I'm a little older than I was 20 years ago and we have a major Presidential election coming up. I won't debate with you about why I'll vote one way or another. This talk of Palin and Obama not having any or enough experience got me thinking after some events this past week. What I want to talk about is this recent "Bail Out" or "Remedy" or "Rescue" or whatever the hell they want to call… Continue

Hire A Teenager....While They Still Know Everything!

So my oldest (son) is turning 16 tomorrow. All in all he's a great kid. Participates on his HS tennis team, has "good" kids as friends, keeps his grades up (for the most part) and he doesn't get into trouble (or as I would have said it 20 years ago....doesn't get caught!) Ha! But seriously, he's not doing anything stupid, I feel that in my heart. My biggest problem with him is that...He's a TEEN and he does stupid teenager stuff that irks the hell outta me as a parent! I'm supposed to be "train… Continue

Youth Sports & Parents...Who is really the child here?

Youth sports is something near and dear to my heart. I serve on the Board of Directors for my community basketball program and I volunteer with the softball program. I played as a kid, I've coached, I currently coach AND I'm a basketball ref. I've seen every angle on youth sports and I'm proud to say that I'll never be classified as one of "Those Parents". You know the ones...living out their long gone sports dreams through their up and coming "star". Some parents get it, sadly others don't...A… Continue
