When you build a new home with Estridge, they provide all the furniture and furnishing for the entire home. (for interested buyers, visit www.fully.estridge.com) It's pretty amazing actually. Bjorn Carlson The Future of the Web - What Does It Mean For Your Business?

With Internet usage up by almost 133% in North America since the dawn of the new millennium and almost three quarters of all Americans using the internet on a regular basis it is no doubt that the Web has come to be a mainstay of how we conduct life and business. With the way Websites and Internet based applications have exploded over the last decade and a half, the world has not seen advancement in the wealth and ease of access to information like ever before. There also seems to be nothing tha… Continue

Jennifer Swineford The Phantom of the Opera at the Madame Walker Theather by the IBC

I had the privilege of going to the Indiana Ballet’s performance of ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ with my husband this Halloween. I hadn’t been to a professional ballet before and was awed. We were told a little about the IBC itself before the performance and learned that all the dancers at the IBC are Hoosiers. I found this to be very interesting, not only are we supporting the IBC, but really great dancers who have chosen to make Indiana their home. The performance was beautiful and moving. I wa… Continue

Carey Driscoll Indiana Ballet Company's Phantom of the Opera

I was lucky enough to score two free tickets to the Phantom of the Opera performed by the Indiana Ballet Company, thanks to Smaller Indiana. My husband Dan and I went last night to the show and were very impressed. I hadn't been to a ballet in several years, and the Phantom of the Opera is one of Dan's favorite narratives. It was also the first time either of us had been to the Madame Walker Theatre - what a beautiful venue (have you seen the funky monkeys above the stage!?). The performance was… Continue

Jeff Corns Phantom of the Opera performance by Indiana Ballet Company (IBC)

On Halloween this year, I had the pleasure of attending the Indiana Ballet Company’s production of The Phantom of the Opera. This was a double pleasure because it was also the day my oldest daughter Isabelle (Izzy) and I spent together for her 9th birthda… Continue

Chuck Lasker Observations from my First Ballet - Phantom of the Opera

Thanks to the generosity of the Indiana Ballet Company (IBC), my wife, Sharon, and I attended our first ballet performance this afternoon. It was Phantom of the Opera, a perfect show for Halloween. We got the tickets through the IBC's SmallerIndiana.com contest. Woo hoo! Thanks to Elizabeth Audet, pictured here with me after the… Continue

asa blevins Hoosiers in World of Warcraft Movie

There is a documentary called Second Skin that was released last month about MMORG. If you don’t know what that means..think World of Warcraft or Dungeons and Dragons. Three of the main subjects are from the Ft. Wayne. Who you can see in the clip below I’ve watched it, and despite some personal issues with the editing. Meaning it feels more like an episode of The Apprentice than a film documentary. I highly recommend the flick. Whether you rent it, or buy it, you won’t be w… Continue

Paul Worthey Jr Marketing--a bad field to be in right now?

I cannot seem to figure out what I am doing wrong to not be able to get a marketing position, two years after graduating with my Bachelor's. In spite of not having done an internship ( I know, big mistake, but i worked full time and couldnt afford to take an unpaid internship) while in school, I know that I should be able to get a position somewhere, even without experience. I would think some of my coursework and course projects would count as experience, but I guess not. Some people say to me… Continue

Lindsay Manfredi Meaningful Relationships in the Workplace

You know, I’ve never understood those folks who constantly draw a line between work life and personal life. I am not referring to bringing a crappy day home with you and taking it out on your family…which by the way, happens quite often and is really NOT cool. What I AM referring to is your relationship to your… Continue

Shannon Gross Six Simple Ways to Reduce Fourth-of-July-Fireworks Anxiety for Your Animal Friends

I’ve been living in the same house for a decade now, and I love it. The back yard slopes down into a pond (okay, an architect friend of mine calls it a water feature but to me it is now and always will be a pond); we are blessed with a plethora of wild critters who live in and ramble through our neighborhood; and the neighbors are nice and quiet. Well, most of the neighbors. A few years ago, Mr. Firecracker bought the house two doors down and fireworks that were once blessedly far away were now… Continue

Gus Pearcy Did the media hype the swine flu outbreak?

I'm a news junkie and a student of the art of journalism. The media can certainly over-react to any event, but when it comes to the recent outbreak of swine flu, I think not. First of all, I pretty much ignore the 24-hour news stations. Their quest for ratings tends to have them blow everything out of proportion from the first 100 days of the Obama administration to the anniversary of Columbine. The same usually holds true for the networks, except for the swine flu outbreak. I personally think… Continue

Melody Hinks Meet the Bridal Magazines......

It's darn near a right of passage. As soon as you get engaged, you'll probably be tempted to rush to yur nearest newsstand to buy a bridal magazine. At $5 and issue 9which works out to a dollar a pound, sort of like rutabagas), they seem like innocent fun...cheap dress catalogs...and, as a bonus, yu get those silly advice articles with breathless titles like "Six sex tips every honeymooner must know NOW!" But all is not as innocent as it seems. Lurking behind those glossy covers and lace-covere… Continue

NealTaflinger How to grow up in one day - Taffy becomes a guest lecturer and gets an accountant

On the recommendation of a co-worker, Indiana University professor Nancy Comiskey invited me to Ernie Pyle Hall in Bloomington to speak to her feature writing class about multimedia storytelling. I rarely feel like an adult but standing at the front of that class, dispensing career advice to men and women eight, nine, 10 years younger than me - well, I felt like a grown-ass man. I have spent a large chunk of my life in front of crowds or in the public eye yet I found myself getting anxious in t… Continue

Hello my Smaller Indy neighbors! As you may or may not know, I have OFFICIALLY moved to the state of Indiana. I have an exciting opportunity ahead of me, feeling God calling me to the missions’ field in Colombia! - April or early May (final date pending). My church (New Paradigm Christian Community) have developed a close… Continue

Hazel "The Queen" Walker Accountability Breeds Success

Jim Rohn, self-made millionaire and successful author, said "You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with". Brian Tracy once said that: "you cannot scratch with the turkeys and fly with eagles"; you cannot relate with mediocre, uninspired and unfocused people and expect yourself to be different from them. You need to surround yourself with people who empower you, compliment your areas of expertise, and fill in the gaps you are missing. Those who can help you step outside… Continue
