Taylor Martin Show #20 and counting

My 1970 Simsbury, CT, high school yearbook has this phrase under my Senior picture: "With a wave of my wand, the world becomes a stage for my antics." A good friend on the yearbook staff wrote that for me. How prophetic? As some of you know, I produce a monthly magic show at Theatre On The Square. I decided to do it because no other magician was trying to do an ongoing show in Indianapolis to support the showcasing of magic and variety arts. Illusions Restaurant and Magic Moments had closed an… Continue

Taylor Martin Has all the beautiful music been written?

I've been on the road a lot the past 3 months. It's my busy season, what with rendezvous and re-enactments. My Rodney the Younger character is always outside, performing magic that is over 100 years old, and taking in the sights and sounds of the 18th and 19th Centuries. As I sit in my hotel room in Nashville, TN, I have on Classic Showcase. This highlights great music, art, dance, and a myriad of other things that make life worth living. I was just watching/listening to Handel's Fireworks Musi… Continue

Paul Poteet Great Indiana Customer Service

Don't ask how, but the magic little button in the middle of my Blackberry popped off at me the other day. (Who could blame it?) It was following in the footsteps of the the little ring around the magic button (remember those classic commercials for "ring around the button?") which had already dislodged.I found a great place for temporarily dumb smart phones. "Brian" is the one-man band at Indy Cellular Repair in Broad Ripple. He has a website… Continue

Becky Pruitt The Cask of Amontillado

Indy Fringe Day 1 The Cask of Amontillado Wine…..revenge…..intrigue…..opera…..costumes….Edgar Allen Poe…..what more could a girl want in a Fringe Festival show?? The Cask of Amontillado promised to be a fun diversion for the Man and me on a Saturday afternoon. It’s interesting to me that operas are one of my favorite things….although they are typically somewhat tragic. The Man and I have the discussion often about tragic music (which he likes) and happy music (which is my preference). I once… Continue

Becky Pruitt Tortillo! Indy Fringe

Tortillo!!! Indy Fringe, Day 2 The Man and I head down to Mass Ave to check out something a little different than Saturday’s Edgar Allen Poe Opera, The Cask of Amontillado. We decided that the end of the weekend and the quickly approaching Monday needed a good shot of laughter and Tortillo was just what the doctor ordered. Scooby Doo meets the snack food industry…….meets Batman and Robin…..including a quirky but hilarious “guest star appearance” of a psychedelic English rock sta… Continue

Taylor Martin The Magic Dinner Theater At Carnegie's, Greenfield

Greenfield, Indiana, the home of James Whitcomb Riley, Eli Lilly's East Plant, and Carnegie Hall. OK, not hall, but a library that had been funded by the philanthropist and steel baron Andrew Carnegie. Carnigie funded halls and libraries all over the U.S. My wife went to Moores Hill High School and they have a Carnegie Hall. You'll see his name on lots of Indiana buildings. In Greenfield, it's a library that's been home to a great restaurant for the past few years. My wife and I celebrated our 3… Continue

aaron story Entering Into Pain

One of my most painful situations in my entire life started with a phone call 10 years ago. A phone call from my wife that our weekend plans had changed and we needed to head to the hospital immediately to see my father. Though I had no clue what was going on, because of the eerie nature of the ride I knew it was significant. When I arrived in the hospital room, father told me he had found out his kidneys and liver were shutting down. Just a couple months prior he passed a full medical scan yet… Continue
