It's Not About Price

In the last six to nine months have you been hearing, "money is tight right now", "it's not in the budget", these are common push backs that sales people are accepting right now. What if I said, it's not about the price?

Are Your Customers Satisfied with You on the Web?

Your boss doesn’t pay your salary – your customers do. Keeping your customers happy is the main goal for all marketing and sales activities, including customer service. Recent technologies have given customers more power than ever before, thus making sure your presence on the web exceeds their expectations has become mission critical.

Scott Monty, Ford Motor Co. head social media guru said,“As business becomes more fierce, margins shrink and barriers to entry are almost… Continue

Indiana Supreme Court Won't Reconsider Adoption-Surrogacy Case

The Indiana Supreme Court won't reconsider its reversal of an adoption order granted to a New Jersey man of twin girls born by a surrogate in Indiana. In April, the high court ruled New Jersey resident S.M. failed to comply with the Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children In the matter of adoption of infants H., Marion County Division of Children's Services v. S.M., No. 29S02-0904-CV-140.

The justices remanded with direction to comply with the compact and thereafter issue a… Continue

Are you a social media zombie?

What's a social media zombie? It's a term I affectionately use for someone who has profiles on social networks but uses them at about 10% capacity. Here are some ways to determine whether you are a social media zombie:

* You have a LinkedIn profile but less than 10 connections

* Your Facebook, LinkedIn, or Twitter profile has no photo

* You have a Twitter account with only one update that says "Trying out Twitter"

* You reply to LinkedIn messages 6 weeks late with the… Continue

Living a greener lifestyle

People who cook outside and go to the bathroom inside baffled my grandfather. He had a contrarian’s view on many things, including progress: when you’ve come so far that you have to go out of the way to seem natural, something’s wrong, he figured.

I can’t think about the green movement without wondering where he’d stand if he were alive today. As a lifelong farmer and outdoorsman who grew his own food and, yes, killed his own meat, would he be glad to see people interested in… Continue

Hand coldness and color changes are also seen associated with this condition.

There are three types of TOS; arterial, venous and neurogenic. According to a study (1) published in the Journal of Vascular Surgery, 90% of… Continue

TMI? I Think Not

To paraphrase Rapunzel from the movie Shrek the Third, “Everyone toots, Beauty,” and I’m going there with my blog today.

As some of you know, I was a court reporter for many years. I was setting up my equipment for a deposition one morning. There were two men in the room, an attorney and a witness. It was quiet except for the rustle of setting up my equipment. My case was on the floor, so I would bend down to get an accessory, stand back up, down and up.

Well, on one of… Continue

My Inner Critic’s New Job

I want to move fast. I am impatient. I want to make more money, create greater abundance, be in excellent health, do only work I love, create deeper friendships and more connections with others. Maybe like me, you are also impatient. Are you, like me, impatient with the now? Are you looking for ways to improve, to be better, to have more joy, more fun and to get it, whatever it is, right.

My inner critic finds little satisfaction in what is. My inner critic is always focused on what… Continue

Sales and the NFL

On a recent 4 hour car drive home from visiting family I found myself anxious to get back to the house as soon as possible. Yes, we were away from home for the weekend and wanted to sleep in our own beds. Yes, having 2 little ones in a car for that long isn’t an ideal scenario. Yes, it was nice outside and my lawn needed to be cut. We arrived at our house and the first thing that happened…..I raced for the basement to turn on the NFL games.

After getting my quick fix of fantasy… Continue

Adoption Stories from the Farm

No subject melts me like adoption. I am blessed to be a dad through adoption, twice! If you are a Facebook friend you might have read about one of our Apple Family Farm cow share families, Brian and Mandy Harvey, and the incredible journey they are still on in welcoming one of the world's 147 million orphans into their family and into their home. Within a month or so, they will be flying to India to pick up Mia, their daughter, and bring her back to Indiana. If anyone is interested in following… Continue

My Busy Month

For me, October is the busiest month of the year. I have 2 Indy Magic Monthly shows at Theatre On The Square, Mississinewa 1812 this weekend, River Thru History in Willowsprings, Illinois the following weekend, The Grand Masquerade for Damien Center on Oct. 24, and a show for Gleener's employees. I do wish all my months were this busy.

Being an entertainer without an agent and fending for myself on the time I have alloted to chasing after shows, is not easy. Learning new illusions,… Continue

TiVo-like recording without the TiVo

Q: Are there DVR-like recorders that one can buy to record TV from an antenna or cable without subscribing to a paid service? The best I can tell, TiVo requires a subscriptions to record TV signals from an antenna.

A: Just about any computer now can be constructed with a TV tuner card built-in. And if you already have a computer, these same tuner cards are available in almost any store.

As far as what they can record, they should be able to easily record… Continue

How was everything?

"How was everything?"

How often do we hear that? It's a question often asked as we check out of a hotel, finish dinner at a restaurant, or shop at a store. What answer do you typically give when asked?

If you're like most people (including myself), you answer with a simple "fine".

Recently I checked out of a hotel and was asked this same question: "how was everything?" This time I said "almost everything was great but the Internet access at the hotel was… Continue

How Do I Look?

This is a special day. A very special day. You’ve been anxiously looking forward to this day for a long, long time. The color swatches that you labored over months ago are still floating around in your mind. But you know it was worth it to make sure the right color and the right material are giving the right message. You’ve written the words and edited them over and over again. And now it’s time for the unveiling.

You hold your breath, expecting oohs and aahs from those gathered… Continue
