Today is last chance to vote for Indy's Most Fashionable

I've been pressuring Indianapolis Monthly to do a Best Dressed issue for ages now, but their argument is: are there enough well-dressed people around here for that?

Thanks to Fashion Wrap Up, there's no longer any question.

After launching the first local best-dressed competition (that I'm aware of, anyhow), we arrive today at the final… Continue

me and God......

A question has arisen lately asking people why they go to church and what made them choose the one they attend.

Well, grab yourself some chocolate, buckle your seatbelt and enjoy the ride…..

I’ve been going to church since I was two weeks old. My mother played the piano and sang in the choir, my father led the worship music and my grandfather was the pastor. In my family, once you are too old for the…

Good Clean Jokes you can tell in Church!

If you are looking for a collection of good, clean jokes that you can openly tell in church, then you need The Official Alpha Dude Joke Book.

I like to make people laugh, or at least smile. I don’t care if people are laughing with me or at me. As… Continue

This is Your Neighborhood

I was chatting with another Smaller Indiana member this week and they were concerned that some of the conversations had gotten political... to the point that some members thought about leaving. You folks know that I throw myself into a lot of the debates on here. As a co-founder, I hope you don't think I should censor myself. I hope that I'm always being respectful of alternative opinions.

The word co-founder is great... it doesn't mean that Smaller Indiana is 'mine'.…

Appalled

I am disappointed and quite appalled at what passes for discourse on Smaller Indiana as of late. The vitriol egged on by the Obama dollar post was just the icing on the cake. The videos on this blog I posted a while back were all approved except for my camera experimentation one, from what I can tell only because it insinuated that a moose would hide from Sarah Palin, so I posted them directly to… Continue

Calcium isn't just for women

Calcium has long been known for its abilities to help grow stronger bones as a kid, but also is very important with helping prevent or slow osteoperosis in women after menopause.

Calcium also plays a major role in muscle activity and has been shown to help alleviate muscle cramps and spasms.

Recently research has shown that daily intake of calcium either via diet or supplements can help men live a longer life. The study showed that over a decade men who had a significant…

Indy Fringe Day 10

It was my final performance of Andrea Merlyn's Book Of Secrets. The show could have gone better. The stage crew brought the curtains in too early, I dropped a prop, I invented a new method to vanishing salt and making it reappear, and I sweated through my false eyelashes. But, the crowd loved it and it was the largest Sunday audience I've had at Fringe since the first year in 2005.

We headed out to see Archy and Mehetibal (forgive me, the spelling is not in front of me) and it was a… Continue

MS Bike Ohio

Yesterday we went to a fund-raising bike-a-thon in Ohio, between Columbus and Cincinnati. It was a great event. We got to meet people, they had a live band, ice cream truck, free Vitamin Water, except for the heat it was a perfect day. The heat did keep away a lot of folks especially since heat is not a friend to suffers of MS. AS a result we fell short of our goal to raise money so we are offering our t-shirts online to be able to hopefully reach more people and achieve our…

Homemade Cough Syrup for kids.100% natural and tastes GREAT!

I don't know about you but in the years of being a mother, almost 18 years now, I have always struggled with getting my kids to take ANY form of cough medicine. After years of trying I decided maybe they are on to something. I researched the ingredients and most of them were worthless anyway. So I went out on a limb and created my own solution using herbs and whole ingredients. It worked great and I NEVER have a problem with the kids taking it.

1/4 teaspoon…

The things you learn...

We just began our fall tour around the country and one of the best things about this is the diversity of people that we get to meet. We meet people from Africa, South America, China, Pakistan, and many more countries. We enjoy having conversations with everyone because you just never know what you are going to learn. I just had a quick facebook chat with a person we met last year who is from Nepal. He is a student and was asking if we were going to return to his university this year. Did you… Continue

Health reform's first effects? Higher premiums!

The people who most need lower premiums bought plans without great coverage. Those are the folks whose premiums will go up the most first.

Health reform mandates that insurance companies add coverage. Many people thought that increased coverage wouldn't cost them anything. Politicians set up that belief in many ways. Maybe it would be paid for by the overpaid CEO, or preventive care saves enough money that it won't cost anything (fiction). Preventive care saves money on the one…

The Road To Nowhere - Indy Fringe Festival Review

John Hefner is a man with a plan: take a road trip along Route 66 with his dead father to visit his crazy, vegan, "meat is murder, milk is rape" polyamorous, anarchist girlfriend in Vancouver, Canada.

John Hefner is a weird guy.

But I loved his weirdness. He embraced it, did all the kitschy things you would expect someone to do on Route 66, and took lots and lots of pictures with his father (his father's ashes were in a box). And he showed us his photos in a PowerPoint… Continue

A Brighter Shade of Blue — Indy Fringe Festival Review

I got to see A Brighter Shade of Blue, starring Paul Strickland on the last Friday of the show, and was glad I went. I skipped another show to finish up some writing, and nearly didn't go to this one, but I remembered that Paul was a storyteller from Louisville.

I like story telling, and I like Louisville. So I decided to go. I was glad I did, because the guy is freaking… Continue
