My Mom, who had been ill with cancer the last few months, passed away yesterday. When I explained to Mom a few weeks ago about the hundreds of emails/facebook messages/tweets I'd gotten about losing Dad she was pleased even though she had no idea what a Twitter was. Maybe she was just relieved her goofy son had friends. THANKS again to all my relatively new friends on SI for your support this (long) month on behalf of my family.
I've written about OTC on SI a bunch. Now that our Upgrade is complete, Tom Davis and I are excited that OFF THE CUFF is now more easily shared by the 5 or 6 people who actually like it. Visit us in the "z-tv" section of the new wzpl web site. When you land on a CUFF, you (finally!) have the option of sharing it via email, posting a direct link on your Facebook, or embedding it into your blog. I'd like you to share Paul & Tom. Mrs. Poteet… Continue
I've had several Smoosiers contact me about the Social Media Intern post I put up yesterday, so I thought I had better explain it a little more. I am looking for an intern for the Salvation Army. I used the usual channels and go the usual responses: boring, boilerplate, and devoid of any tangible evidence that the applicant understood social media. So, I pulled our ads and put this on Craig's List:
We are looking for an intern. Not just any intern, but a social media intern. We’re…Continue
Wow!....can you believe it is already the end of July? It does not even feel like we have had summer yet. Where is the heat? I remember a few July 4th's ago that we were sweltering one summer while camping in Brown County State Park. We did not have air conditioning in our pop up camper and just lazed around the campsite in our hammocks and a cool drink. Oh well, still having fun this summer anyway. You just have to make your own fun you know.

Finally some candor from a member of congress. Michigan Democrat John Conyers (chairman of the House Judiciary Committee) admitted to the National Press Club he had not read the 1100-page healthcare bill. That, he said, would take him two days and two lawyers present to interpret.
Unfortunately, Conyers is not alone in his reading habits, or lack thereof. He shares this inability to read what Congress proposes with the other 435 members of the House, both Democrat and Republican. Never… Continue
Remember Jill* from my office? The one who is both clueless and brilliant at the same time?
Well, yesterday morning, Jill was looking for me. I was at an offsite meeting from 8am to noon. I had the meeting scheduled on my electronic calendar, which is accessible by everyone in the office. Because of the nature of the meeting (we were running a focus group), I had my cell phone (… Continue
I try to hang around with smart people as often as possible. It might rub off. Neal Moore is a smart guy who has worked with the Informatics Department at IUPUI, and operates Neal Moore Communications. We met to discuss some biz at Mo'Joes Coffeehouse, and ended up playing around with "Twitcam," a service that lets you log in w/your Twitter account, and send a tweet announcing… Continue

Same bit, different url. Tom Davis and I want you to point your browsers to the next generation wzpl.com (Ryan Seacrest in 3-d!) site when it launches Thursday, July 30th at 5pm. Before you consider investing in another radio campaign or newspaper ad, consider the following forecast that Forrester Research recently released on interactive marketing expenditures.

It happens to me every day. Usually in the kitchen. I will be looking for something, say, the Worcestershire Sauce. So I open the pantry and glance around, but can't find it. After a few minutes I say to my wife, "Amy, are we out of Worcestershire Sauce?" And she'll usually say, "No. I just bought 3 bottles. They're in the pantry." To which I say, "I'm looking in pantry, but I don't see them." Despite the fact that this little act happens often, Amy patiently comes to the pantry, glances in and… Continue
Yesterday a group of about 150 local business people, including many Smoosiers, held a business rally to generate positive energy and make new connections. From the looks of things, the event was big success. Thanks to Ron Brumbarger and his Bitwise Solutions crew and Gerry Dick and everyone at Inside Indiana Business for the inspiration. Some of the attendees have formed a… Continue
I was recently speaking to a group of Professionals and when it came time to discuss topics the director mentioned “Leadership.” After asking a few questions about why she asked me to talk about leadership we agreed on a topic that would provide benefit to her group.
Here is what I soon realized…..leadership is a word that is thrown around and different people have different definitions of the word. I realized some Business Owners ‘thought’ they were leading their people when in fact… Continue

The last couple of weeks have been quite busy with less time to spend just strolling through Smaller Indiana. It seems the same must be true of others; at least those in the groups and areas I frequent. I am hoping that the quiet tone indicates people are busy with their work and businesses, not simply getting in that last little vacation before school begins - although that does sound like fun! Hope springs eternal around here.
But my thought is this: It is especially at the busy… Continue
