Yes, a highly athletic and musclar Holmes is troubling

I have to agree with your review. I found the movie entertaining and fun to watch, but when I tried to connect the movie to Sherlock Holmes, yes "that is the rub!". At first I tried to convince myself that this is just a modern update to a wonderful old classic in which I have read the stories several times over. After further reflection, I just couldn't go with that. The lead Character in the Conan Doyle novels and in this movie were two different people and to use the premise of Sherlock…

Do you want clean air? I do!

At the beginning of March I went to the Smoke Free Indy volunteer call-out session. Cadillac Ranch made the perfect relaxed atmosphere to get to know those behind the organization and their current efforts. (Also, in some cases catch up with those I knew from my days at MCHD.)

In May, Smoke Free Indy is hoping to have the Community Affairs committee hold a hearing on Proposal 371.…

Restaurant.com gift certificate pays off

I've posted links on Twitter andFacebook for Restaurant.com's famous $25 gift certificates that only cost $2 (when using a special promo code, see end of this blog post). Whenever I do this, I get two types of responses.

The first is people thanking me for pointing out such a good deal. The second is people saying they are a rip off, have too many restrictions or that there aren't any good restaurants in their area.

So I decided to put my money (all $2 of it) where my… Continue

On Torture

Matt Damon paraphrasing a statement by Milt Beardon,

Remarkable Products Lead the Market

In his book, The Purple cow, Seth Godin asserts that the only way to impact the market and grow quickly is to have a remarkable product.

Having an interesting marketing campaign, and a “great” product or service is no longer enough. If you want to emerge from the recession as a business and market leader, you must have a remarkable product.

The example that Godin gives is about companies who spend $3 million on a super bowl ad, only to gain no additional sales from… Continue

Strong Opinions

"Radical Islam has overplayed its hand again, creating popular resentment escalating to political backlash. We're the ones winning this struggle across the board, and not only should Obama ignore the offer of a truce as we press forward in Afghanistan and Pakistan (it would only allow Asia to step in for the… Continue

Old Tires Do Not Belong in Your Landscaping!

As a landscape designer and a naturalist at heart, I believe rubber mulch needs to stay away from your landscaping! It’s smelly, can contain wire, and does not add organic matter to the soil. There is also concern that rubber mulch does leak small amounts of zinc into the soil and can cause an imbalance in soil alkalinity.

I not only have a green thumb, but a “green” conscious as well…

INFORMATIONAL: Lessons in Masonry Heaters 2

Masonry heaters can serve as the primary heat source in a modern home of 1500-2000 Sq Ft, particularly when it is located in center of a living space. The heat output is controlled by the amount of wood burned, while the rate of heat delivery remains comparatively steady. On each firing of 50lbs of wood, a Temp-Cast fireplace can deliver 250,000 BTU’s of radiant heat.

Thermal mass construction, such as in log homes, earth-sheltered homes, sod homes, and… Continue

Financial Literacy: Taking Ownership

Today's issues are broader than ever--topics that once were the responsibility of the individual, family, society or government. A wide variety of topics are impacting American society from community services to fitness and wellness. As Americans continue to recover from the financial downfall that began in late 2008, one issue needs a loud voice--FINANCIAL LITERACY.

April is National Financial Literacy Month, and it is fitting to say "Americans are ready to rebuild".…

One of Tony Dungy’s sons has a genetic condition that prevents him from feeling pain. In his book, Quiet Strength, Tony tells stories about his son running into walls, falling down, and getting right back up as if nothing ever happened.

What would you do as a business leader if you knew that no matter what you did, you would not feel pain from it?

The fear of pain has prevented me from doing a ton of fun and potentially successful things. My parents call me an…
