Using PR Effectively in Your Small Business Marketing

Don't have a small business marketing plan? Neither do most of the entrepreneurs we encounter on a regular basis. Many people naively enter the business world convinced that their product or service will sell itself.  They expect prospects to find out about their new business as if by magic and to flock to their website or storefront without any prodding. Unfortunately, this isn't the way it works. And if you were being realistic, you'd realize that without announcing your presence to the…

Gotta Go: Food Review Seasons 52

When you write a column and blog, you are offered numerous opportunities not given to just anyone. Case in point: I received an invitation to a private dinner to taste-test the offerings at about-to-open-in-Indy, Seasons 52 restaurant. Situated in front of the Fashion Mall at Keystone, the Darden restaurant, a Florida-based chain, takes mid-level dining to a new…

Fledgling Foodie Takes Bite Out of Seasons 52

I’m not sure, but I think I became a foodie last night. It happened during a private preview of Seasons 52 Fresh Grill, a casually-upscale restaurant set to open March 7 on Indy’s north side (near the Fashion Mall where Keystone Grill used to be). I was there because my friend Elizabeth Musgrave invited me to be her guest.

And who knew we’d be treated…

Seasons 52 Fresh Grill Opens Mar. 7, 2011

I was honored to be included in the guest list at tonight's special event at Seasons 52 Fresh Grill, 8650 Keystone Crossing, in Indianapolis. It's directly west of Sullivan's Steakhouse (and right across the parking lot from the west entrance to the Fashion Mall).

It's a beautiful, tastefully decorated restaurant, very upscale to be sure. The food is delicious and the company was excellent with several SI members in attendance including Adrienne Bailey, Elizabeth Musgrave and Erin…

Depression Is?

Have you ever wondered what depression really is all about? We hear it so much today that I believe the term has been watered down. The heart of depression is suppressed anger that builds up overtime and eventually will be suppressed so much that it begins to disrrupt the energy in your body. When one suppresses anger or any negative emotion, it will come out eventually as a physical sympton of dis-ease in the body. The spiritual body is also effected as well, you may feel a true spiritual… Continue

Gotta Go: Food Review Jockamo

When asked, I tell people I am a restaurant critic, not a food critic. The difference? My review covers more than food, by rating on the traditional 1-5 stars in six separate categories: Appearance, Menu, Service, Product, Style and Website.

Jockamo Upper Crust Pizza is well known in historic Irvington. Opening a second location… Continue

Migraines Have Made Me Appreciate Systems

I have recently started having migraines, and a big one hit me this week.  Having a killer headache makes it near to impossible to get any work done.  I mean, come on, how I can really get work done if my head is pounding, the sound of the keyboard hurts, and just looking at my computer screen makes me nauseous?  Sorry for the TMI, but I’m just being real.

It’s made me really appreciate the people I have working on projects within my company because I know most of the work is still…

Cancer care options negatively correlated with mortality of cancer type

I've never been able to quite express this the right way, but in the US using current data, there are less cancer care options for the more 'deadly' type of cancers.    I know there are a lot of reasons for this, and I can give a few later, but I thought I'd throw some numbers and facts at this first to peak interest:…

Think Fido is willfully ignoring you as you stand shivering in the pouring rain calling his name, imploring him to finish his business so you can both go inside where it is nice and warm and dry?

Maybe he actually can’t hear you.

Have you looked in his ears…

Is Being Connected Ruining Your Relationships?

by Amy Barnes MBA MA LMHC

Would your relationships benefit from a tech diet? How can you be fully present when your attention is really on the screen and not the person in front of you? What’s worse is as a whole, is our society spending significantly more time in front of some sort of an electronic screen than we are in real live face to face contact?

I love my…

The Butterfly Analogy

I recently was reading a post by one of my favorite bloggers, Danny Brown, and he had reposted an article about the butterfly effect of entrepreneurship.  Boy, did that post ever hit home to me, so I would like to share a synopsis of it.

A great analogy of this…
