Papa John’s has purchased rights to be the Official Pizza sponsor of Super Bowl XLIV this week in Miami. Now get this: Papa John’s will not buy a 30-second TV… Continue
First to start with my tutorial on the Google Wave Meeting Agenda Template. While this may not be the best way to currently hold one's meetings with the increasing amount of bots, features, apps, and gadgets that are being added to wave very soon exporting one's Meeting Wave into a usable and trackable document is not long…
Last night, Andy and I attended the opening of "Art from the Heartland" . It is a juried exhibition featuring more than 70 works by 50 artists from Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan. Paul Klein, Chicago-based curator, art critic, writer and creator of an Art Letter juried more than 400 pieces by 200 artists for this first of what will be a biennial exhibition at the Art Center.
Did you know that the majority of people in the U.S. that are below the poverty line have cable TV? In many countries, the average person doesn't even have shoes. We're complaining in this country that our poor don't have broadband Internet access.
(This is when I sound old...)
When I grew up in Connecticut, none of my neighbors had air conditioning. We used to stay in the basement on hot days because it was cooler down there.… Continue
I make no bones about it, nor am I ashamed to say it, I love to dress. My t-shirts with my favorite things on them are my way of dressing. I have Batman, Penn & Teller, Lenny and Joe's Fish Tales (a Connecticut seafood landmark with yearly shirts), and one of Napoleon's famous hand in jacket on it. People think it's casual, but I do think of my mood and then pick the shirt. I have some from charity events, all 5 years of Indy Fringe, rock concerts, places we visited, and many others too… Continue

I check out Smaller Indiana and BlogIndiana daily, and am so often lost in envy when I read about the tweet-ups and Brewhouse meet-ups (yum, that place rocked!) and other meetings, all in Indianapolis, for I live over a hundred miles south of the City and can't attend those. When the Bloomington conference was announced, I was embarrassingly ecstatic! The people I had met at the larger actual BlogIndiana conference last summer made such a positive impression on me, and I wanted… Continue
Dick Davis (of Burger Quest fame) invited me to lunch today and recommended Papa Roux... a Cajun H*** in the Wall over by East 10th and Post Road. We ran into Smoosier Brian Huff having lunch there as… Continue
By now I’m sure you're all too familiar with the words “Facebook” and “Twitter”. It seems one of these social media giants gets coverage once a week by Brian Williams on NBC Nightly News. And like all good Business Owners / Executives, I’m sure you’ve asked the inevitable… Continue

Have you seen the latest AT&T vs. Verizon advertising campaign?
In the latest attempt to convince the American public that they should switch to AT&T, their spokesperson (Luke Wilson – funny guy – best movie is Old School) argues that Verizon stinks because you can’t talk on the phone and surf the internet at the same time.
In another campaign, Sprint indicates that their service is the best because you can be on vacation, shop, download music, check on the office… Continue
I'm all jazzed about the new Ipad from Apple. I think that organization and convenience are critical to good social networking practices, and from what I see of the new Ipad, it will save me tons of time through usability and convenience.
I have beautiful visions of being able to easily communicate from anywhere at any time. I know, the iphone and other smart phones already give me this capability, but it looks to me like the… Continue
Toyota is synonymous with practices such as Total Quality Management and Kaizen. It built a solid reputation for quality and reliability and the market rewarded it by making it one of the leading sellers of automobiles in the world. Until recently it appeared as though nothing could tarnish the sheen off of Toyota but things may be changing. Recent reports have shown cars manufactured by Toyota suffering from some serious manufacturing defects. Here is a list of all the issues… Continue
Yesterday, a Speedway-based manufacturing company announced plans to expand. A small business in growth mode? In this econmy? You bet!
According to the SBA, small entrepreneurs will lead the U.S economy back. And Zipp Speed Weaponry, bicycle wheel maker extraordinaire, is doing just that. A new 70,000 square foot building worth over $12 million will pump some life--and jobs, and taxes--back into central Indiana. Why should we care? Because Zipp cares about the community. Through… Continue

This week eBay announced yet another round of substantial changes to its selling structure. For the past few years, the mega online retailer has re-jiggered its platform and in the process made very few of its sellers happy.
I am a longtime seller on eBay, specializing in collectible vinyl records. Ebay has long been known as an online auctioneer, but they have been moving steadily away from auctions and… Continue
In the technology world where I prefer to do anything online when possible, it is still nice to walk into a bank and have the teller know my name and seem genuinely friendly. Thanks @nationalcity bank! It is also nice to go to the UPS store and have a box custom made for the bizarre shaped gift you are sending by a middle class worker happily doing a job most of us on here would groan over.
Lesson learned: Regardless of profession we should… Continue

Many companies now include a Facebook or Twitter URL in their television commercials. Almost every cell phone provider now touts Facebook and/or Twitter connectivity in their TV spots. In my Social Search: Tempur-Pedic "Ask Me" Commercial post a few weeks back I shared Tempur-Pedic's commercial in which they suggest viewers ask their friends on… Continue
Tonight at 9 p.m., millions of Americans will gather around their television sets to view history in the making. Granted, 50% of the audience will likely stem from the "American Idol" lead-in, but they’ll hopefully stick around to watch President Obama’s 2010 State of the Union Address. In… Continue

Yes I admit, second to Two and Half Men, one of my favorite TV shows is Desperate Housewives. My claim to watching this show of dysfunction is that it makes my life seem normal. On last week’s episode Gabrielle Solis played by Eva Longoria Parker and Susan Mayer played by Terri Hatcher were talking about their children. Gabrielle said to Susan in a serious tone, “My children are my calling card.” In a show that exaggerates family and neighborhood dysfunction, I was touched by that profound… Continue
