There is a Fine Line to Walk

There is a fine line in marketing between “edgy” and “offensive”. ‘Edgy’ has your target market all a buzz with positive word of mouth. ‘Offensive’ has the same people talking about how stupid or what a bad move something your company did or said was.

www.tonyscelzo.com

So, why do companies take this risk with their brand? Well, there is something inherent in ‘edge’ and ‘offensive’. That is it gets remembered. The first goal of any marketing message is ‘recall’. Can you occupy some of that, oh so valuable gray matter, between someone’s ears?

Marketers know that ‘recall’ is the first measure of success. There are many famous “studies” done on “jingles and slogans” that have lasted 10 and 20 years beyond the existence of the company or product.

I have always been a fan of the marketers willing to find language that so succinctly describes their value proposition into words that really get remembered. This is so hard and so valuable to companies for long-term growth and branding.

I commend guys like Chris Reed w Creed Improvements for his tag “We Take the Butt Crack Out of Home Improvement” or Jim Doering w/ Doering Consulting and his tag of “We Take the “SH out of IT”.”

These tags are edgy and unorthodox but cut through the market place like a knife through hot butter. They get remembered and they get hired.

Networking is like golf

How you do one thing is how you do everything

This phrase has been so prevalent in my life for the last month. I have just been so aware of all the little things that happen day to day. I think this comment makes you think. If you are late for meetings consistently or you never pick up a check or you don’t compliment or tell people thank you, do you think you are the type of person that builds good relationships? Are you the kind of person people like and are attracted too?

If your habits reflect what I mentioned above, the answer is proba… Continue

Self Image and Confidence

As we turn and look towards 2010. We are focusing on one thing. How do we make this the best year ever? Change your self image!

Psycho Cybernetics was a ground breaking self development book by Maxwell Maltz.

The book is an incredible read. It can be summed up into one simple phrase. You cannot be bigger than the self – image you have of yourself. Continue to Self Image and Confidence...

Be More, Serve More, THANK More!

Three years ago I met ‘a car salesmen’ at a networking event. He was quiet, analytical and maybe even a little skeptical. He had heart though, if you were willing to see by his initial persona, that was bigger than life. What bore through all of my initial reactions was someone who sought to be a servant leader.

The Life Game of Risk

As a business coach, I often help people face their fear of risk. Now, this is easy to do for others but a whole different subject for myself. Entrepreneurs are generally looked at as being risk takers. I don’t agree with this at all. I think they have come to terms with a few things:

First, most of us can be afraid to risk the things we have now in order to achieve the things we want. We will know that we are meant for something different, that our lives have a different purpose or path than t… Continue

Tony, My business partners are pushing me to do more Spanish classes for various groups. They suggested that I should do some for particular groups in Rainmakers. Since I am interested in getting more people to experience how easy it is to learn another language. I would be glad to give a 20 to 30 minute demostration to a group of people (realtors, insurance agents, supervisors, restaurant managers, health professionals, hotel managers, etc.) What do you think my step should be.

Hey Tony! I've been in Rainmakers for about 4 months and I still haven't sat down with you. This is a meeting that will be of benefit for both of us. When would be a good time to chat?

I'm the Career Services Advisor at The Art Institute. Networking is going quite well. Lately I've been spending my days visiting companies around Indy and making them aware of the Art Institute. As of right now I'm trying to find companies that incorporate Animation into their business. Our Animation students need to broaden their horizons a little. Do you by chance know of any I could reach out to?

How are things going with your business?
