Tim Storey replied to Pat Coyle's discussion What's the "greenest" thing happening in Indiana right now?
"I'm looking for a perspective that helps me either better explain my negative view of the "windmill solution" or helps me give up my opposition to them. If you'd like to help me with that, take a look at my reply on page 2 (I…"

Tim Storey replied to Pat Coyle's discussion What's the "greenest" thing happening in Indiana right now?
"It is the small groups of people who have separated the concepts of happiness and materialism, "standard of living" and energy usage, change and progress. How many "green" innovations simply continue the vicious cycle of "an…"

What Kind of Innovation?

I'm all for innovation. There's just something fun, invigorating, about identifying a problem and then trying to find a solution. In the first discussion, we seemed to be touching on the need for innovation. My background isn't philosophy, I was a high school science teacher/engineer, so I'm expecting some correction on terms I use from Scott at least. I enjoy the insight and perspective. The "innovation" I'm working on now is how to address the problem we have using too much energy and too…See More

Repairing, Not Replacing Windows is the Green Choice

Just wondering what this group's view on replacement windows for energy savings/sustainability is. This might seem a little mundane, but there's a bigger picture issue here. Since the mid 90's, there have been quite a few studies showing that very little, if any, energy is saved when comparing a typical new window to an original, single pane window plus a storm unit. The other issue is that the old windows can last a couple of hundred years with very little repair/maintenance, whereas new…See More

How did you hear about Smaller Indiana?
Other
What is your greatest strength?
Hard to say. I do try hard to understand and solve problems that are going unnoticed.
What are you working on?
Raising awareness about the waste and economic harm caused by replacing rather than repairing. Current interest is in old homes/buildings, and specifically for now, original windows. Ad campaigns and lobbying efforts have convinced people they are being wise or even "green" by replacing windows -which is not the case.
How big is your business?
Self-employed
What is your Job Title
Owner
What is your Company Website?
http://moroccorandr@superhomepro.com
What is your alma mater?
Purdue University
Why join Smaller Indiana? What are you hoping to experience here ?
I hope to increase discussion/awareness of the real issues behind messages to replace rather than repair windows, and raise questions about the "disposable" mindset.
