Does EVERY business need an IT dept?

While staying over in Fort Wayne at the Mariott Courtyard I realized the importance of an IT department or personel in today's world of customer service.

I think of myself as a pretty savvy gal when it comes to computers and the Internet. However, this time I was stumped. I could log on to the hotel's wireless, but Internet Explorer was just not accepting it. Nothing would load. And of course, it's 10pm on a Monday and I'm trying to get some work done. So, I do what most people do in any hotel… Continue

Social Media Breakfast Recap

Might I say I was extremely pleased with the breakfast event I attended this morning! The speaker, Hannah Joseph, is an attorney here in Indy and she gave some great info on the legalities of online marketing.

One extremely important topic that I learned today was to think any online marketing campaign through, just like you would a print advertisement. Just because it's online does not mean that you are an exception to the rules. The prime example was the recent Marsh fiasco, where Marsh prese… Continue

Blogging and Advertising

Here's my dilemma: you've set up a blog with great calls to action, graphics that show off your brand, you've got great content in your blog posts, but you've got no comments. You're analytics show that you've barely got a dozen people looking at your site a week. What's up with that?

If nobody knows you're there, then does it matter how great your blog is? If you're a huge company like Toyota, then putting a link to your blog on your website is probably more than enough advertising. Of course,… Continue

Social Media Novice

You might know me, and might also know that I am currently handling the social media for my agency on my own (on top of the many other things in my job). It's invigorating, stressful, difficult and fulfilling all at the same time. Why not be excited to have a project all to yourself? But, then there's the real issue at hand. How far can one person really go with social media?

I have hope that my agency will learn from my progress and mistakes. Maybe they'll start to realize that we need more st… Continue

Since when did job duties become so vague?

I remember when I first looked over the details of a job I was applying for, one that eventually became my full-time career. There was a list of ten items that briefly mentioned my job duties: coordinate quarterly trainings and newsletters, keep website content current, plan and coordinate an annual conference, etc. As if that was not enough in itself, the very last (and very small box) said "various other tasks." Who knew that various meant so much? I'm currently working on getting equipment so… Continue

Welcome to Smaller Indiana. I think you will find this is a little different then most Social Networks. The community is active both on and off line. Check out some of our groups and events for information on what is going on around the state.

A few tips as you get started:

We love interesting conversations in the main blog, so please feel free to use that section, for questions, thought provoking ideas and interesting observations. Use the forums for business promotions, job hunting, employee finding, and event promotion. You can also list events in our calendar section.

Make friends, reach out to people you know, and introduce yourself to people you don’t! We look forward to reading your posts, and perhaps meeting you at one of our many events around town!

I agree that a lot of people jumped on the iPhone bandwagon because they do buy anything Apple makes. I think that really came out of the beginning of the iPhone, back in the early stages, before the iPhone became more affordable and more popular....

I highly doubt it. Apple has the apps! Apps are fun! Everybody likes fun things! I love my iPhone and I'd never give it up. Although I'd rather have the better service that Verizon provides, in the end I cannot complain. I guess that, in the end, ...

My guess is that they are losing pledges as the years go by, and so they are REALLY pushing it to try and reach more people. And, it's only turning them off. I think they'd be better off having several one-day pledge drives throughout the year.
