Good Morning, I just read your profile and thought as a small business professional you might be interested in our local business network (IBN). Indiana Business Network has chapters all over the state. Locally we meet in Plainfield every Wednesday morning at 10am. There is no cost or obligation to check it out and the monthly dues are only $25.00. I joined recently and it is by fare the least expensive means of lead generation that I've found. I'd be happy to answer any questions if you are interested.

Peggy, Since I have not heard from you, I am wondering if you received my reply to your question about my helping you with the zipper & pants problem?

I'm glad you'll be able to use Terry's advice. She has lots of experience in alterations and custom sewing. I had her reline my husband's opera cloak. In the process she found the original tailor in Indy who had made it nearly 100 years ago. She saved the label for us so we can document its origin.

good luck on the jackets!

Peggy, my friend and fellow member of SPN sent me this about the zipper:

Peggy,

Remove the top zipper stop (it is difficult, but possible). Pull the slider up & off. Work the new slider on & down the tape. Replace the zipper stop & secure. DO NOT CUT the zipper tape. This all has to done on the tape with the tab channel on it.

Peggy,
I haven't tried replacing the glide on a jacket, but have replaced one that has slid off by accident. (Sometimes I shorten zippers without remembering to block off the cut end of the zipper.) I've forwarded your question to one of our SPN members who does alterations for a living. She may have a quick and easy way to fix it.

Peggy, we don't require certification---just good work:) We'd love to meet you. If you have any pictures of your work, feel free to bring them along or to the March meeting!

Peggy, Thank you for acknowledging our SPN site. SPN has been an organization for over 10 years. Our membership is composed of sewing educators, alteration experts, machine embroiderers, bridal seamstresses, and home decorators, Our charter president was Joyce Hittesdorf who owns Something Wonderful! in Carmel. She patterned our organization off of PACC. We hold monthly meetings the second Tuesday of each month. Our dues are $36.00. We like our new members to introduce themselves at a meeting and show ( if possible) what they have sewn as a demonstration of what they do and the quality of their work. We do this so that we may with confidence refer one another to customers.
Our next meeting will be held Feb. 12 at the Nordstrom store in the Fashion Mall. We are to meet at the UP escalator at 6:45 PM promptly so that we can take the tour. Our March meeting will most likely be at the Hensel Gov't Center in Carmel. We have several trips planned this year: draping a dress form with Jennifer Myers, a visit to the IMA, a fabric dyeing class, and much more. There's a picnic in August with the local PACC group (can't recall the new acronymn right now) and a Christmas dinner in December. We lost our last home decorators years ago, so we haven't planned meetings relating specifically to that this year, but we are very flexible. We try to be more to ourselves than the American Sewing Guild, which by the way has an enormous membership in Indiana. Some of our members also belong to the newly reorganized PACC.
Let me know if you would like to join our organization and I can set you up with where you can send your dues. Feel free to be our guest at the Nordstrom meeting so that you can meet us. Just rsvp me so we can have an accurate number to provide the store.
Thanks so much for asking about our group!
