Hi, Laina: I'm guessing you want someone on a permanent basis, but I thought I'd check to see if you might be interested in a college student for the summer. My daughter, Sara, is completing her freshman year at the University of Delaware and wi...

I'll be there supporting my wife's art career by pouring wine and trying to sound like I know what I'm talking about when someone asks me about the artist and she's otherwise engaged at that moment. I also plan on sneaking out (when she's not loo...

Thanks Mark for the post. Here is a thought for our readers and non-creatives: Art? Support the arts or don't?... well lets see. Let's play with the idea for a minute of a life with out the arts. Music, that's arts cut that, not only at the theat...

Marty: I completely agree. I'm not suggesting that arts organizations become reliant on government funding, just that the attitude toward the arts by government often is unfortunate. More than anything, I was just trying to bang the drum a little...

Disclosure No. 1: I am not an artist. I wouldn't even be allowed to play one on TV, considering that I can't draw a straight line or a round circle, and all my people end up looking like misshapen sticks. Disclosure No. 2: The love of my life IS ...

Some days (like a rainy Monday morning), work can seem like just that. Fortunately for me, those days are in the minority. I get to spend much of my time around smart, passionate, creative and interesting people and I'm lucky to be able to say th...

For something a little different and a bit off the beaten path, try the Loft at Trader's Point Creamery on Moore Road, off 86th street on far west side (just outside 465). Rustic, but elegant setting in loft of a barn on the farm. Wonderful servic...

How did you hear about Smaller Indiana?

What is your greatest strength?
After two decades as a newspaper journalist, you learn to embrace the chaos and use it to your advantage. In my current life, that skill has allowed me to juggle multiple tasks and tight deadlines. I actually like change and the process of helping other people and organizations through challenging periods, and seem to be able to work effectively with an array of pesronality types.
What are you working on?
At work, I am deeply involved in helping our company and our employees get through this difficult economy by providing clear and timely communications on a range of issues - from announcing change initiatives to crafting strategic messages on behalf of our top executives to trying keep my staff focused on the challenges and opportunities in front of us.

As a parent, I am working very hard (not always successfully) at being an empty-nester now that our amazing daughter and only child has flown the coop for college out of state.

As a quasi-creative type, I am trying to find some sort of outlet for the stuff spinning around in me head, but am not making as much progress as I would like.
How big is your business?
large company
What is your Job Title
Middle Manager
What is your alma mater?
Indiana University
Why join Smaller Indiana? What are you hoping to experience here ?
My wife, an artist and the true creative talent in the family, has had a good experience on Smaller Indiana. I don't need thousands of "friends" and I'm not looking to "Link In" to dozens of people just to say my network is bigger than yours.

At the same time, I love a good conversation with smart, creative, passionate people. Smaller Indiana seems like a nice opportunity to exchange ideas and share interests - and maybe help get my creative juices flowing a bit..
