Should a CEO Use Social Media?

Well.. this is an important question to ask. This is even more important to consider if you are a CEO. There has been quite a bit of chatter in the social media world pertaining to a CEO’s use of social media. Should the overall leader in a company be involved in the online communication strategy [...]

Your Website is Your Social Media Hub

Our web-developer extraordinaire and overall genius at Brandswag, Stephen Coley, wrote in his post yesterday about the importance of centralizing your overall social media communication strategy. Twitter Usage Plan for Success

The One Place You Should Focus ALL Marketing

Many times we (marketing professionals) talk about the concepts of an integrated marketing approach. “You should be doing email marketing, billboards, radio ads, blah blah blah blah. ” Sometimes it gets a little heavy… Sometimes it gets a little burdensome. Business owners want to know one thing: How do you drive brand awareness or revenue. As [...]

Twitter More Important than LinkedIN for Small Biz?

I love polling. Sometimes you take it for what it's worth... and sometimes it blows you away. I stumbled across a post by ReadWriteWeb about a polling completed on LinkedIN asking their members What is the most important new platform for brands to master?

Screw Your Average Marketing

Some say the age of original thought is dead. We are all building off the ideas and inspirations of thought leaders from the past. I happen to agree with this notion and don't find a thing wrong thing it. Seth Godin has been someone I have followed religiously since I first stumbled across his books in college. I am happy to build off his ideas and create the concepts of new marketing.

Seth has always ta… Continue

10 Tips to Build Trust with Social Media

In the new economy there is one major truth that stands above the rest. Trust equals revenue. If you are a small to mid-sized business it is the amount of trust you can build between clients that strengthens your brand.

With trust comes happy clients and with happy clients come referrals. Trust is a fundamental block of building business. Marketing is built under the assumption that stories can create an emotional bond between a consumer and a brand... a client and a service. Can you tell a sto… Continue

You Want Growth? Empower Your Employees with Social Media.

I mentioned in a previous post that I have been reading Seth Godin's book Free Prize Inside for a... I think... fourth time. In the beginning of the book is a quote that I have underlined another four times:
"If your goal is growth, marketing is all that matters--and everything you do is now part of marketing... Every product and every service can be made remarkable. And anyone in your

Kyle,
Thanks for the welcome. I joined hoping to find people with similar interests. (specifically in the area of wines) I'd like to join or maybe even start a wine tasting group.
This looks like a great opportunity to meet new people.
Thanks again

Hey Kyle -
Well, then I'm in the right place! I've lived in Indiana my entire life, save for the last two years in Illinois. The difference was striking enough to make me wish for home. Most of all, I love the people - there is a genuine-ness about the people who live here that sets you at ease, and makes you want to see your fellow Hoosiers succeed along with yourself. Look forward to the networking opportunity and enrichment provided by Smaller Indiana!

Hey Kyle! Thanks for the welcome. We met at the Hoosier Hospitality Conference earlier this year. I've been meaning to become more active with SI for a long time. Seems like a great resource! I hope all is well with you. Cheers!

What do I love about Indiana! Hmmmm, I've thought about this all weekend. I love that you can live in a big city, a mid-size city, a small town or in the country and still be able to experience the other places whenever you want. I love that you can drive a few hours and be in Chicago or one day and be in Washington, DC, or even another country. I love that in that same amount of time you can be back home again in Indiana. Indiana has defined me as a person and wherever I go I will still be a Hoosier through and through!

Hoosiers are realisticly optimistic. We've always had a true sense that if you worked hard and played by the rules, then you could achieve anything. I think that's total BS, but I love that point of view. What about you?

Hi Kyle,

Thank you for the welcome.

What I love about Indiana, specifically, Indianapolis: I love the urban-meets-small town feel of Indy. We live in a neighborhood that is both culturally and socio-economically diverse, and offers a feeling of community without being claustrophobic. I like the fact that we're close to other urban centers (relatively speaking): Chicago in particular. I'm glad the sustainability movement is catching up here, and really enjoy the growing network of farmers' markets. As they say, it's a great place to raise your kids--and since we have three, we're especially grateful for that fact. As a writer/aritst, I also enjoy our growing arts community, despite the economic challenges we're dealing with right now.

I'm sure I could think of more to say... but that's a good start!
