Summer Safety Tips for Aging Seniors

Summer Safety Tips

Summer provides wonderful opportunities for families to create meaningful moments with loved ones diagnosed with dementia. Enjoying gardens, family cookouts, or holiday celebrations are fantastic ways to reminisce with your loved one.

There are a few safety tips to remember.

1. Be sure to use sun block. As a person ages, their skin becomes thinner and will burn more easily. Also many
medications can cause a person to burn more easily the longer they are in the sun.

2. Prov… Continue

Elder Abuse

Providing care for someone with Alzheimer’s or another related dementia can be one of the most stressful events in a person’s life. Often, caregivers are the children of elderly parents requiring 24 hour care. These adult children are not medical professionals nor do they have prior experience providing medical care. The typical caregiver often has a job during the day and is “sandwiched” between raising a family and caring for their parents.

"My mother was never like this before."

"Mom was never like this before….”

I was talking to a woman the other day whose mother has Alzheimer’s. Her mom has begun to walk up to men that live in the same Alzheimer’s center as she does and kiss them on the mouth. Watching mom or dad acting in different ways can be very hard. Care givers often feel the need… Continue

Aging in Indiana

Aging in America – Aging in Indiana

In 1999, Ken Dychtwald, Ph.D, published in Age Power the following: “Currently, 47 percent of people over age 85 – the world’s fastest growing demographic segment – suffer from some form of dementia”. As a nation, we are not prepared for the boomers who start turning 65 in 2011. We’re in a crisis and very few states have a commissioned task force to prepare for aging and dementia. Young or old, insured or not, republican or democrat, we should all be concerne… Continue

I would like to get together with you then. We insure a lot of nursing homes as well as home health operations. There could be some good crossover information for the two of us.

My grandmother had dementia prior to her death. It was tough. Is Sollievo in any way connected with Ellen Dunnagin?
