7 Reasons Why Conformity Is Bad

In light of the infectious rash of posts with 7 things about yourself that has been clogging my Google Reader feed from Smaller Indiana I have decided to give you all 7 reasons why conformity is bad.

1) Unimaginative. Simply doing a blog post that has been done by everybody else on this site in an effort to discuss yourself is a little bit self serving and ridiculous. The rules of the site prevent you from actually touting your own work here, so I see this meme as an attempt to do… Continue

Music Biz 2.0: Musicians vs The Industry of Cool

One of the best movies about rock n roll as a business is the great film Almost Famous. It's the story of a young music journalist covering his first major label act, the fictional band Stillwater, which is supposed to be an amalgamation of 70s bands like Led Zeppelin, The Who, Queen and others. Anyway, one of the greatest lines in the movie comes from the character Lester Bangs who is a real life legendary writer, editor and founder of Creem magazine, the premier fan magazine of the… Continue

Music Biz 2.0: The Crowded Playing Field

In previous segments of this series of blog posts on the modern music business I have discussed The Local Impact of Big Box Music Shops and The Economics of Live Music Entertainment. I should… Continue

When I was growing up here in Indy finding a local music shop to buy instruments and accessories was a fairly hyper local affair. I grew up on the east side and my local music store was Thompson's Music at the Eastgate Mall, which later on became Indy's Music House which is now sadly defunct.

I took my first piano lessons at Thompson's Music which had a full line of instruments from amps to xylophones. I will never forget the day I heard the Korg PolySix synthesizer someone had… Continue

Joh,

As your are in the Web/IT business I could use some advice.

Please visit the Sm Indiana-(CoWorking group) and give us any feedback that you may have on some of the questions that we have posted. Thanks!

Joh - I was intrigued by your response to my Wannabe Blogger (my very first blog), because I'd love to learn more about becoming a pro blogger... I know you said you spend a few hours a week blogging for your clients' news or whatever they want you to spark discussions with... Would you have time to chat with me about this? I'll be out of town during Saturday's BlogIN (drat!), but I'd still like to talk sometime if you're willing.
