Activating your Marketing Efforts

I had the opportunity to listen to an interesting panel discussion the other day. The conversation was on the business of auto racing. As an avid IndyCar fan, I was an eager listener. Today’s world racing has being hit hard by the same recession we all have been living through.

Much of the presentation focused on the benefits that sponsors received by supporting a racing team. All the panelists agreed that in addition to getting your name on a race car, it is important to have an ‘activation’ s… Continue

How to Talk to Your Customers

Louder is better, right? How else can you get your message through in this fast pace, media overloaded society? On the Internet, louder does not translate to success. What does translate is relevant information presented in an authentic manner that makes sense to the audience. Ok, so what does that really mean?

First of all, relevant information means having value for the audience. It is crucial to consider the perspective of those seeking the information. To be relevant, you need to make a con… Continue

The YouTube Mistake

YouTube is a terrific service. It has transformed media throughout the world. But, like many of today's social media, business is still looking for effective ways to leverage it and drive profitability. In the meantime, ambitious, well meaning, souls can easily fall prey to simple pitfalls that threaten to short circuit their forward thinking efforts. I saw one such example recently.

I get lots of email, and much would be considered 'bulk' (a nice word for spam from friends - you know the endle… Continue

Attack the Recession

Here is the million dollar question - what are you doing to fight the recession? Things are tough all over and many companies are closing ranks and watching each and every dollar. On the surface that seems like a smart move as markets are plummeting and so much change is happening all at once.

But life still goes on, and so does business. Our advice is to be strategic rather than just ‘hunker down’. Strategic means taking a look at who your best customers are and what they need. Strategic means… Continue

Become a Trusted Advisor

I’ve been thinking about levels of business these last few days. I’m sure an argument could be made for more, but it seems most businesses fall into one of three categories:

* Bidder
* Vendor
* Trusted Advisor

A bidder is one who specializes in handing out quotes. In most cases, businesses who thrive as bidders generally work to keep their prices low which is their strategic advantage. Customer service, quality, and marketing are not as important as price and number of opportunities.

A vendor… Continue

Hi David,

I saw that you were on the Business Roundtable Network (BRN) discussion in Smaller Indiana.   We have our biggest event in our short history (Jan. 2009 until now) coming up next week.   If ever there was a time to get involved with BRN now would be the time. We provide the support and exchange of expertise needed in this economy.  We need a core of people (50) who are truly committed to helping each other get through this economy and thrive.
It would be great to have you as a part of that.
Hope to see you next Thursday.  See details below.
Thursday, April 30th
4:30 pm to 6:30 pm
At Conquest Racing Headquarters
Get additional information and register in advance by going to our website:  www.brncommunity.com
We need you to register because food is being provided by Z’s Oyster Bar and Steakhouse – excellent!

I've heard good things about you guys but didn't realize you were part of Smaller Indiana. I am president of Penpoint Communications (great minds think alike I guess). I am writing and print design focused. We HAVE GOT TO GET A CUP OF COFFEE since your profile pic also gives away that you are a trek fan.

Maybe we could help each other out, collaborate something like that.

Hi David,

I saw your response to Kyle Lacy regarding Greenwood Community Church. I'm also interested in meeting more people like Evan McBroom of Fishhook, for similar reasons. I think our texting platforms might be of great interest to him and to you for that matter. Maybe we can get together sometime soon to discuss our two companies?

Hi Dave. We old Markey's types seem to show up occasionally. Terry Farley formerly of Markey's is responsible for getting me to join.

I hope all is going well for you. I seem to be keeping quite busy lately.
