Free and Open Source Software Licensing

Last week I tweeted (@indyscompugeek) asking for suggestions of topics to blog about. I was hoping to, and did, receive several suggestions. Most of the suggestions revolvedaround using Open Source, free software and Linux based solutions forthe start-up or the established business. So, to answer these requests, I’m going to take the next few days introducing various free and Open Source software tools that may help you and your business. In fact, my nextblog entry will be on the OpenOffice…See More

Flag Day Ceremony at American Legion, Post 205

June 14, 2010 from 6pm to 8pm
Flag Day is a once a year event where worn American flags are disposed of, following proper procedures and respects, paying homage to those who have come and gone before us, supporting those who still honor it and continue to do so, today. My American Legion, Post 205, in Franklin is hosting the ceremony, again this year. bring your children and Scouts to learn about the meaning of our flag and why so many people have put their lives at risk to support the ideals of this land.DanielSee More

Social Media and Business Growth/Marketing

I’ve noticed from the people I follow on Twitter, most of whom are a part of the Smaller Indiana website, Mondays and Tuesdays are great days to tweet, communicate and share. Wednesdays and Thursdays are usually quieter, with Fridays being a free for all on weekend plans, events going on and socializing with less work discussion. Now I’m no professional marketer. And I’m no expert on using Twitter or other social media avenues to market my business or services. However, I see this as an…See More

Outside the Box: Google for Background

For small businesses, and ‘freelancers’ (such as myself), reputation is everything. Even the reputation of a customer can cost you business with others. Before just jumping in with

both feet, you need to do your ‘due diligence’. That means look into

this customer (or potential partner). Be looking for anything shady,

negative associations with their company, payment issues, employee

issues, and so on. But also be prepared to consider the ’source’…

Hey Daniel,

Welcome to Smaller Indiana. I think you will find this is a little different then most Social Networks. The community is active both on and off line. Check out some of our groups and events for information on what is going on around the state.

A few tips as you get started:

This is a place to make personal connections so please add a photo. It is our custom to use personal photos in our profiles not commercial images or logos because we like to see the people with whom we are talking with.

We love interesting conversations in the main blog, so please use that section, for questions, thought provoking ideas and interesting observations. The forums work best for business promotions, job hunting, employee finding, and event promotion. You can also list events in our calendar section.

Make friends, reach out to people you know, and introduce yourself to people you don’t! I look forward to reading your posts, and perhaps meeting you at one of our many events around town!
