No problem, Steph. I've been slow to use Twitter too- but have found quite a bit of good info on there lately.

OoOoOoh! Thanks Emily! I've been sort of slow to jump on board with Twitter, (I have an account... just rarely use it) but that could be useful info! Heh. :)

Steph- if you follow "antiqueweek" on Twitter, they are tweeting about the US 40 Yard Sale all day long today- what they find along the way, traffic, etc.

If you're into Antiques, a friend of mine just told me about this. I'm planning to go on Saturday for a while... just thought I'd share with other antique lovers! Click on the "US 40 Yard Sale" link on the left. http://www.oldstorefrontantiques.com/

Who am I?

For the last 24 years I've been with AntiqueWeek newspaper, a national weekly paper covering the antiques industry. I've also been an antique dealer with a booth in a mall off and on for about 20 years. I love antiquing and auctions and am an avid collector, especially of anything from Parke County, Indiana, German Shepherd items and stick horses.

In my non antiquing life I am into animal welfare. I started a blog a year ago to let the people of Indianapolis know more about what was going on at the Humane Society of Indianapolis and Indianapolis Animal Care and Control. I train with a Schtuzhund club twice a week with my 3-year-old mutt Batman and my 5 month old GSD Condor. Batman also has several obedience titles and is a certified Therapy Dog. I also volunteer at HSI and IACC, mainly I work with dogs at both places as dog training is something that really interests me.

If you are ever interested in learning more about volunteering at either HSI or IACC or want to know more about what is going on in the animal welfare community, just contact me. I can talk animals and antiques all day long.

Local shelters celebrating Animal Freedom

Both Indianapolis Animal Care & Control and The Humane Society of Indianapolis are offering special discounts for pet adoptions geared toward July 4. After all, animals want to celebrate their freedom from shelters!

The animals of Indianapolis need your help

Indianapolis Animal Care and Control has been hit with several huge intakes of dogs recently. On Monday they took in 51 dogs from a breeder that were said to be in deplorable condition. This included four mother dogs with puppies and 31 other adult dogs. This was in ADDITION to 70 intakes (31 dogs/39cats) received during the normal course of business. So just in one day, IACC took in 121 animals!

The facility is overflowing with wonderful animals, some of which end up being euthanized just beca… Continue

The story of a dog

Whenever I get depressed about how the world is going and especially how some people treat animals, a story comes along that brightens my day.

My friend Monica was at Wipe Your Pawz near Eagle Creek on Saturday when a couple came in saying they had found an injured Shih Tzu and didn’t know what to do. Monica, being a serious animal angel, took the dog and immediately took it to an emergency veterinary clinic. There she found out the dog has a sucking chest wound with a pneumothorax.

A Heart fo… Continue

The Luck of the Irish for some HSI animals

There will be some "wearin' of the green" for sure at the Humane Society of Indianapolis today. From 3-8 p.m. anyone who can be the least little bit Irish (or wear some green) can get $17 off the regular adoption fees for one of the animals at HSI.

And if you've never met a leprechaun, now's your chance! Between 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., be blessed with the luck o' the Irish and shake hands with a leprechaun, straight from the wooded glens of the HSI campus!

If all goes according to plan I'll be v… Continue

Do you love animals? Be a Volunteer or Foster

I volunteer at both the Humane Society of Indianapolis and Indianapolis Animal Care and Control. I have also done fostering for a couple of other animal shelters.

This has been one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. I now wish I could win the lottery so I could just volunteer full time.

Both shelters are extremely accommodating about what you can do. You can spend as much or as little time as your life allows and there are all kinds of jobs available. You can walk dogs, play with t… Continue

You may have not seen the "to promote" part of my last message. I'm looking for a dog trianer that wants more business. I've found a creative way to promote a dog trainer. Do you know a trainer that might like to hear my ideas?

Hey Connie.

I'm looking for a dog training company and a dog boarding company to promote. Do you have any connections in those areas?
