Do you know of any budding young writers who want to be published?
Check out Ask A Hoosier.com's Contributing Writers and Editors program:
As the author of Could Have, Should Have, Would Have, Zack Keaton has the distinction of being the first Contributing Author to AAH. He not only writes about baseball but also plays it. He is a varsity pitcher at Sand Creek High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He is considering for his future, among other things, sports journalism.
Comment by Joe Devlin on August 13, 2012 at 1:25pm We are about to launch a series of ongoing "Micro-shows" similar to the E Network's "Talk Soup" and yahoo OMG's Entertainment News and so on. I am looking for a couple of talented comedy writers that need a place to express their talents. This would be an ongoing position and would actually pay some money.
You will need :
To understand the concept of Premise - Setup - Punchline
How to write Short - conversational monologue (aprox. 1 minute each)
Be able to absorb information and come up with original content
Be skilled and self-motivated and able to produce on a deadline.
Pay is based on your skill and capability - with earnings growth available over time.
I look forward to your response.
Comment by Erik Deckers on April 2, 2012 at 1:14pm Quick question, nothing is set in stone:
If I were to offer a "Personal branding for writers" 2 hour seminar at my office near Broad Ripple, would you be interested?
It would be held during the weekday, cost $25, and you'd get a free copy of Branding Yourself: How to Use Social Media to Invent or Reinvent Yourself with it.
Like I said, nothing is set in stone. A "yes" from you does not commit you to anything. I just want to see if it's worth doing.

Comment by Heidi Newman on March 24, 2012 at 3:46pm I've been a full-time, freelance proofreader and editor in Indy since 1999. On April 12 at 5:15 p.m., I'll be leading a 1.5-hour workshop at the Service Center arts and culture building in front of Lafayette Square Mall. If you are interested in attending, there is no cost, but advance registration is requested.
This workshop will cover tips and techniques for self-editing, how to avoid common writing errors, and some current publishing standards.
Please feel free to spread the word among your writing community. If you contact me at proofreader@ameritech.net, I'll forward more information about the session and where to sign up.
The session is interactive and is appropriate for writers (aspiring to seasoned) of all ages.
I hope to see you there!

Mark My Word! Proofreading and Editing
I wonder if members would like to take a look at Ask a Hoosier.com, look at the "Contributing Writers and Editors" tab and consider if there might be an opportunity to either incorporate what I am inviting here. I am not able to actually attend any groups due to the basic problem that I now live in Colorado.....but because of this....am exploring ways to get my Blog - get the Site "back home" - with writers who are ...where you are.
Maybe we can find some mutual benefit. Perhaps a draw to participate is that AAH is fairly well established already. I would love to entertain some conversation about the possibility of others getting on board. Perhaps, otherwise, members might know of students (as described below and on the site) who might want to do this.
I founded Ask A Hoosier.com a little over two years ago with the intent of exercising an outlet for my personal writing, practicing as I endeavor to begin writing professionally, and eventually develop it into a fully independent Website promoting Indiana world-wide.
I am now continuing to develop AAH further with a "Contributing Writers and Editors" program open to secondary and university students state-wide. I am certainly open to inviting others as well.
If any SI member knows of an ambitious student writer, a budding professional, a hopeful, a dreamer, an experimenter who wishes to build their portfolio and hone their skill, and maybe just to have their say – all by getting published at Ask a Hoosier.com - please let me know.
I invite you to look over Ask a Hoosier.com, especially the Home and About pages. Ask a Hoosier.com
Comment by Beth Van Vorst Gray on March 5, 2012 at 8:38am LouAnn:
How you organize a group depends on what your goals are. The new group we are starting at Meadowood Retirement Center is going to serve people who are poets and writers of a general nature; others are interested in writing their life stories. We are starting out with the primary purpose of the group is to inspire writing on a regular basis. The agenda is similar to AAUW and other groups I've been in: bring an excerpt from a work-in-progress or any writing you want. We will read our works to each other, discuss and, if asked for, will provide a loving critique. There will be an assigned topic for each meeting to encourage new writing. Leadership will be shared among members of the group. Then, as time goes on, it will undoubtedly build its own culture.
There are professionals who will work with your group if you have the sustenance to pay them.
Often, an advanced writer will start a group in a mentor/protoge mode.
Good Luck. Writing is by nature a lonely business, but a trusted group of listeners/commentators is usually a very growing thing for a writer.
Comment by Erik Deckers on March 5, 2012 at 8:05am Lou Ann, You were in the Indy Fringe? Awesome! What was your show? Are you coming back? Or have you tried Cincinnati? The Screw You Revue will be there this year, instead of Indy.
I tried blogging daily for a year. Gave it up. Too hard.
Erik, I have been a blogger for seven years...I blog daily!! I was in the IndyFringe last year, it was great! I tried for the Minneapolis Fringe and didn't get it. Now I just need places to take my piece. Fringe pieces aren't always pieces that can be told/performed anywhere!
I live in Angola, I don't see anyone in this neck of the woods. Also, interested to know how you run your writer's groups?
