I wanted to let everyone know about some fun cooking classes coming up at French Lick Resort.

Culinary Classics
Comfort Foods for a Cold Winter Night
January 9
$30 per class/$120 for all
For those looking to brush up on their skills in the kitchen, or pick-up some new tricks, the January 9 Culinary Classic is ideal. The theme is Comfort Foods for a Cold Winter Night and guests will have the opportunity to get up close and personal with the resort chefs as they share tips and tricks for the home-cook. The schedule of classes includes: Waffles, Pancakes and other Morning Specialties, Best of Winter Soups, Bakers Breads, Decadent Desserts and Ultimate Hot Drinks. The sessions are arranged so that guests can take one class, which is priced at $30 each, or stay all day for just $120.

A special Culinary Classics hotel package, including all of the classes is available for $174 per person (plus tax) and is based on double occupancy. The mention code for the Culinary Classic package is PJCC and can be booked online.

Stone Creek Dining Company at Metropolis in Plainfield is having a wine dinner on November 11 from 6:30 to 10:00 the cost is only $40.00 their phone number is 317-837-9100 The last wine dinner sold out quick. It was so much fun, I loved finding out how to pair wine with food.

Simply Healthy: Creating Sustainable Communities" is excited to be cosponsoring with Food Works for Middle Way house our 2nd annual Local Foods Dinner! Food works will be purchasing foods from local farmers, gardeners and producers to present a four course meal and beverages. Last year the event sold out, so as soon as the menu is complete, it will be posted the the event site at http://simplyhealthyfair.net/localfooddinner.htm. I hope some of you will join us for the dinner where you will also be able to hear from the farmers/gardeners.

Another excellent resource is http://www.goinglocal-info.com/. You can find links to the farmers markets around the area as well as farm stores. You can also work with the folks from Slow Food Indy at http://www.slowfoodindy.com/ as this is their specialty. They have an event coming up Sunday.

Hi Donna, There are many resources available for supporting local farmers. Start by visiting any of the many farmer's Markets in your area. A partial listing of them is on Indiana Living Green's Farmer's Market Calendar (separate from our regular calendar) on the home page at www.IndianaLivingGreen.com Also on the home page about half way down the right column is a tab that says Community Supported Agriculture. Click for a list of CSA in Central Indiana. And finally local stores: Indiana Living Green is doing a story on Independent stores in the Nov/Dec issue...watch for it. In fact, we are still looking for a list of them as well, so if you know of any, let me know! Sadly, one of our favorites, Edibles in Irvington, is closing at the end of the month. Just another sign of the importance of supporting our local businesses. Their closing affects not just the owners and employees, but the many dozens of Hoosier farmers and producers that supplied them. We are sorry to see them close. Value is not always about price!

I am all for supporting the local farmers and the small food businesses. How do you go about finding a list of these businesses to possibly by in quantity?

Just a point to note:

Green Fest Indy 2010 is being held on 26,27,28th March

The Friday will be focused on business to business and speakers will be talking about issues affecting businesses in the state.
Sat & Sun will be aimed at general public attendance
We expect some 20- 30,000 attendees over the 3 days

Help us to Take Green Mainstream, educate the public and provide a forum of see, try, buy for our vendors and visitors
