Community outreach is a ministry within itself. In helping people you are doing God's work. If you are an atheist or an agnostic, it shows you have a heart!

"Go tell it on the Mountain!"

Please let us know what you, your church, business, or organization is doing in your community. If your service organization sponsor events that are not otherwise posted on SI, feel free to post them here.

I will be using the information I receive to keep others connected.

Let's stay connected. Let's get involved.

You have now entered the world of Reach Out! Outreach.

Thank You!

Dittoe PR, located near Glendale, is participating in a canned food drive for those in need this Thanksgiving. If anyone would like to help us, email me at laurenl(at)dittoepr(dot)com.

"Breakfast with Santa" feeds hundreds of underprivileged children and provides them with Christmas bounty when they might not otherwise be able to get any. This Wayne Township event has been going on for several years.

Does your church, business or organization doe anything similar for the children during the holidays? Tell us about it right here on Reach Out! Outreach. Give us dates, places, times and stories of past experiences. Maybe we can help!

And don't forget, we are still collecting your memories and information on area food pantries.

Cissi asked me to link to the original conversation that prompted her to create this group on Smaller Indiana. I am thrilled to know I played a small role in creating a worthy philanthropic venture such as this. Cissi also asked me to talk a little more about The Garden and their creative approach to worship.

I am on the Marketing Team for The Garden and my favorite thing they do is give 10% of offerings collected to a charitable organization each month. Tithing 10% is a Biblical tradition that The Garden holds dear.

It is a progressive worship service with a live band, under the direction of Troye Kinnet (John Mellencamp's keyboardist--really!!!). The Garden shows movie and TV clips to reinforce the message, they welcome people to join from all faiths, they don't pass a plate to shame you into giving money, they don't have congregation members come into your home and ask for money, and they never pressure you to become a member.

It is affiliated with St. Luke's UMC (on 86th and Meridian) but the main message is one of inclusion. I attend the 10:15 am Service at Beef & Boards on the NW side with my 13 yr old daughter and we often discuss the service on the way home (which never happened when I was a kid). If you want to know more, feel free to contact me directly, or visit www.TheGardenOnline.org .

Thanks for starting the group, Cissi, you are an inspiration!

Welcome to Reach Out! Outreach, Marty!

Thank you for joining our family. Please encourage others to give a little of themselves today. God will smile!

Reachers, we are still collecting food pantry information for a comprehensive list that I am working on. I presently have about 14-17 resources. Is anyone familiar with the food pantry either (1) at a church on 14th and English Avenue in Indianapolis. I hear it is rather larger. I knew of someone that worked there for the holiday lat year. Unfortunately, I cannot contact with them at this time. They were in transitional housing at the time and are (I guess) presently in transition!, or (2) The Missionary Connection house out of New Wineskin Ministries.

I would like to get this list ready in time enough for the holiday season. The information will be welcome to many of those who cannot afford to fill the table on Thanksgiving or Christmas.

By the way, is anyone familiar with the human kindness provided by J.R. Dalton here on the west side of Indianapolis. He also runs a pantry on the corner or 10th and Tibbs. He is the owner of J.R.'s Tires and had used his good fortune to truly give back to the neighborhood.

I started an organization in town called Giving Sum which works to better this community and to engage people to really make a difference. We as a group of professionals are granting $50,000 to an organization that we feel can make thebiggest impact in the community, as well as doing large scale volunteer projects. We also educate eachother on the problems that need addressing in the community. The thought is that the power of many can be an incredibly impactful thing in this community. We strive to not only do basic volunteer work, but to address problems in the community directly. www.givingsum.org

FROM: Mike Tarak

Hi Cissi,
I used to have an advertising client on the east side. It's located at 46th & Post Rd (or near there). It is a Christian Bookstore on the SW Corner of that intersection called Turning Point Bookstore and their church is across the street (name escapes me right now). I believe they run a pantry out of it if memory serves me well. The name of the young man I worked with was Tim Harris (and I think he is Jr.) Super nice guy.

It has been about 4 years since we worked together when I was selling for Valpak and I don't get through that area much anymore. I'm not sure if they are still there or not. You might look them up and reach out to Tim if they are. I am sure he would share info with you.

Hope that helps.

Outreach - A group I am involved with is involved with this ministry which is located at New York & Rural street on the near eastside of Indianapolis. This particular group caters to people with an average age of 19. These young people are on the streets & Outreach does what they can to provide them the necessities that they need to survive.

The biggest thing I liked about this group is that at least once a week, people come in & cook meals where these young people can come in sit down & eat a homecooked meal. Volunteers cook, clean & donate food to make this happen.

Friday, October 3rd, we are starting a painting party to paint their garage & front porch for them. Last month, we done landscaping, misc yard work & scrapped the porch so that it is ready for paint. If anyone would like to join us or just donate items, this group could really use the support of us Smoosiers!

A few things to consider before joining Smaller Indiana:

1. We want to know the real you...Please use your real name (first and last) when you sign up, or we cannot open your account

2. We want to know the real you...Please do NOT use your Smaller Indiana blog for blatant self promotion

3. We want to see your smiling face...Please do not use logos or commercial images for your profile photo

4. Events should be posted in the events calendar, not inside blog posts

5. Please do NOT post commercial video (demo reels), or Corporate Website promotions in your blog

6. You can post pretty much anything you want on your own personal page (self promotion, etc), and you can change the style of your personal profile page to reflect your corporate identification if you so choose.

7. Smaller Indiana is supported by its members, and by corporate sponsors. If you're interested in learning more about sponsorship, please call Pat Coyle at 317 332 7878.
