Hello all! I do a weekly movie podcast with my partner in crime Christopher Lloyd at "The Film Yap" (www.thefilmyap.com). We're on iTunes, but am interested in ways to possibly improve the podcast.

Enjoyed a beautiful summer evening on Monument Circle at the Indianapolis Podcasters Guild meetup on June 29, 2009 at the South Bend Chocolate Cafe. Good food, good company, good conversation, and a high geek factor! Does it get any better than that? Interested in podcasting? Check out http://indypodcasters.ning.com.

The Indianapolis Podcaster's Guild held its first meetup on Feb. 19, 2009 at the Starbucks on Mass Ave. We discussed numerous topics including podcasting projects, mobile digital recorders, Audacity audio recording/editing software, consulting opportunities, and more. If you are interested in podcasting, this would be a good group in which to get involved: http://indypodcasters.ning.com.

M-Audio used to make a fine podcasting package called "Podcast Factory." I don't think they make it any longer, but you can find it on eBay -- at least the last time I checked. The Podcast Factory package includes broadcast quality mic and stand, audio interface to connect the mic to your PC or Mac, audio editing software (Audacity), and podcasting publishing software (Podifier) that publishes your podcasts directly to the Web. I got one of these a couple of years ago for about $150, but you can probably get it for a lot less on eBay.

This would be an excellent starter package for the average podcasting beginner, FWIW.

For a regular audio podcast, it's pretty hard to beat Audacity audio editing software. For one thing, it's FREE. There are versions for both Windows and Mac. And you can download it directly from http://audacity.sourceforge.net.

Audacity is ideal for audio podcasts. It's very easy to create a voice track, for example, and mix it with a music track or other audio track, or to split the voice track into left and right channels to create a stereo effect.

When you are done recording and mixing, it is a one-step process to export the file as an MP3. Then it is ready to upload to your server. From there it is a quick 5-minute process to post it to your XML file in iTunes or any RSS Feed or blog.

I recommend Audacity if you've been thinking about starting your own podcast. Works for me!
