Smaller Indiana

Making people and ideas findable

My local Starbucks, Camby-46113, used to have musicians come in and play for the customers to come in and enjoy while having Starbucks and meeting with friends... They haven't done it for about two years, and they want to get it going again.

I know we have a LOT of creative people on Smaller Indiana and I would love to get some Smoosiers down here to help you get exposure for your talents.

Some criteria:
The store manager will approve the musicians.
The musician is welcome to pass out flyers and direct them to their website.
The musician can not sell CD's in the store.

If you are interested or know someone who is, please either respond to this thread or email me:

What types of music do the people like at Starbucks? Do musicians meet their regularly? I play piano or keyboard. I usually play solo - easy listening, standards, but some upbeat songs. I do like to accompany vocalists. I have also played for singalongs. Tell me more about what you want or need there in Camby. Do you know of any other place, particularly up North?

I am trying to help her get started with one a month. We are looking at the 2nd Friday of each month from 7 to 9 p. She is open to anything that is not too loud. ;) Sound like something you're interested in?

Hi, Nicki - have a daughter who has done coffee shop singing elsewhere - she lives in Indy - works at Church at the Crossing as ad. assis. to music ministry - sings all styles well - usually does canned music, but would enjoy singing with someone playing (noticed Jack's offer). She's busy, busy at church, but I think she'd really be interested in this - she hasn't done any the last year. I had already sent her an invite to SM IN - but will pass this along to her. Has three octave voice, and my favorite songs she does "Alabaster Box" and "Songbird"...

I'd even drive up from Linton to hear her, and maybe meet you. I am so enjoying the discussions I'm reading, the diverse occupations and the compassion and caring I'm seeing here. So glad I stumbled on this site!

Unfortunately, I have recently been contacted by the Starbucks store manager with the following response:

"Nicki,

We have been having lots of things change here at Starbucks. One of the items that they changed is having live music in the stores. Only certain markets and stores are approved to have live music. Unfortunately we are not one of the stores that can."

I wish that I could have done more, but it looks like it's not going much further. :(
