Smaller Indiana

Making people and ideas findable

I confess. The only motorcycle I've ever owned was an 80cc Yamaha back in 1970. I used to have to pull the head gasket about once a month, and it would stop (stop!) suddenly, at speed, in order to let me know that, in the absence of a fuel gauge, it was time for me to turn the valve to the auxiliary fuel tank.
I've been hired to cover the motorcycle races in Indy over the weekend of September 12-14. I'm working on several stories for out-of-towners, and I want to let them in on some of our fair city's off-the-beaten-path treasures. Stuff they can't just find online. I'm interested in restaurants, bars and diversions that are "biker friendly" (need to know whether they attract mostly domestic or import riders, too).
Are you going to the races, either at the Fairgrounds or the IMS? What, if any, are your plans for that weekend? What are some great day trips out of Indianapolis? What else do YOU know about these events that visitors OUGHT TO know? I'd love to hear from you, although not necessarily on SMIN. Please e-mail me at rballen4@gmail.com. Thanks for any secrets you're willing to share.
