Smaller Indiana + Indy Fringe

Smaller Indiana is proud to be a sponsor of IndyFringe Theatre Festival. Just like last year, we will have tickets available for Smoosiers who want to go to the shows and blog about their experiences.

If you are interested in getting involved, please join this group and we'll keep you informed of the many ways you can help. Here are a few of the highlights which we'll be promoting:

Aug 7 - Visual Fringe Opening and August First Friday on Mass Ave
Aug 13 - Longest Dinner (Fundraiser for Fringe, Cultural Trail and Slow Food)
Aug 20 - Opening Night Parade & Party, featuring 3 minute previews and the Playboy Psychonauts
Aug 21-30 - Shows! 53 different productions in six venues

Smaller IN will have a Night on the Fringe prize package to give away. It will include tickets, dinner on Mass Ave and an overnight stay at the Nestle In B & B.

We need bloggers - we've got 2 free tickets to each of over 50 Fringe Shows, and we need Smoosiers to use the tickets...and return to SI to blog about their Fringe experiences. If you're interested in blogging, or helping to recruit bloggers, please contact Erick Deckers.

Even if you don't get free tickets, please, go to the Fringe and return to SI and share your experiences. Blog about it. Post photos or videos. We want to hear and see your stories!

Smoosier Manunya Nookong will be helping out as communications intern on the Fringe and other SI projects this summer. If you have questions and you can't reach Pat, or Erik, you can reach out to Manunya. Festival questions can also be directed to IndyFringe intern (and Smoosier) Christina Lear

This month's FringeFriday gets muy caliente with Latin Night featuring authentic food from Tata Cuban Cafe, salsa music from DJ Taz- the hottest Latino DJ in Indy, and a short play in Spanish by VIDA theatre group from IU Bloomington. It's all free! 5:30-7:00 p.m @ IndyFringe Theatre. www.indyfringe.org

Indy Magic Monthly had a great turn out tonight, because of Fringe. We did great business and had a few come out for the first time. Thank you bloggers and Fringers. You're making my dream of a self-sustaining magic show a reality.

Thanks to all who worked so hard to give us show creators a great place to play. I hope you can make it to Indy Magic Monthly tonight @ 7:30 at Theatre On The Square.

THANKS to all Smoosiers who were among those 11thousand!
Last nite I made a plea to the Indianapolis City County Council to please consider ARTS money as they work on the new budget. As President of the IndyFringe board of directors, I gave them the numbers and the program-- Please contact your local rep and let them know what you appreciate about the arts in Indianapolis and where you would like to see your tax dollars spent.

IndyFringe 2009 was a fabulous festival with a 16% increase in attendance over 2008. $85,000 was distributed to the performers.

Theatre patrons totaled 11,470 over ten days with a total audience of just under 20,000 for the combined VisualFringe, outdoor stage, free outdoor events and opening night.

The top selling shows were :

1. Blunder Construction
2. 7 (x1) Samurai
3. Phil the Void: The Great Brain Robbery
4. humanature
5. Another Classic of Western Literature
6. Mr. Charles, Currently of Palm Beach
7. New Vaudeville
8. Sex/Death
9. America's Next Top Bottom
10. 55 Minutes of Sex, Drugs, and Audience Participation

Thank you, Indianapolis, for supporting the Indianapolis Theatre Fringe Festival and making IndyFringe 2009 a great event!

The end of the fifth annual Indy Fringe Festival moved me to sing "This is 'Good night' and not 'Good-bye'" on my blog.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this IndyFringe such a wonderful experience!
