Smaller Indiana

Making people and ideas findable

Hello everybody...

I just wanted to throw this out there and see if there is any interest in an Indiana Filmmakers group get-together. My good friend Charley started this group so I feel some small (very small) bit of ownership here and thought we might want to start the ball rolling.

So, this is a not a meeting announcement, we have no date or location yet, consider this an informal query to see if anyone wants to get together. We could talk about past projects, ideas for future ones, show some member reels, or even just share some coffee.

Let me know what you think and maybe we can do something after the first of the year.

(Also, as a point of information, any credit for this idea goes to Larry Welke who brought it up)

Thanks,
Scott

Scott:
I'm all for a get-together - informal, casual, unstructured. If all 85 members show up, great. And if only six show up, that would also be great. Either result will tell us something.

Maybe we could stage a meeting late in the afternoon so as to not interfere with work - but early enough so that we don't screw up family dinners. I don't know where the members work or live - I'm at 126th & and Keystone, working out of my apartment, and I can go any place for a meeting. We could probably find someone's office or a saloon with a private room. And it all depends on how many people respond to your invitation.

For what it's worth, I'll admit that my agenda is strictly personal, to wit: If we really are serious about building a film industry in Indiana (and why not?) then we need an active focal group of interested people to make it happen, Hollywood didn't just accidently happen; interested people MADE it happen. How serious are we?
Cordially, Larry Welke

Sounds like a great idea- Networking face-to-face is the only way to grow the industry and get projects done. I will note that there are 2 major film networking groups I am aware of in the state that are great resources to tie into- IFN in the Indianapolis area (meets every second tuesday at the Hamilton 16 in Noblesville: I-69 & 238) and Mid-America Filmmakers out of South Bend. Other good points of contact for filmmaking: indyfilmnews.com and imindiana.org . I'd like to see a lot more interaction between filmmakers all over the state / the midwest.

I'd be up for it! Late afternoon is good. I'm a south sider - Southport & Emerson. I could probably get one of my buddies to attend, he's on S. side as well.
