Smaller Indiana

Making people and ideas findable

At this moment I am currently writing a new Twitter Marketing for Dummies book from Wiley Publishing. I am going to be featuring some Twitter users in the back of the book and I need some Twitter marketing thoughts in 140 characters or less. I am going to (of course) use Smaller Indiana people first. There are two ways you can submit a Twitter comment:

1. Place the 140 character post including your Twitter name into the forum below.

2. Send a tweet out into the realm of the unknown using the hashtag : #twitterdummy

Example: Remember to listen and then react. This is important when using Twitter. #twitterdummy

We will be compiling the entries and then placing them in a special Twitter Marketing Thoughts in the book of the Twitter Marketing for Dummies book. Remember, I am looking for Twitter Marketing thoughts based solely on marketing advice while using Twitter.

Thanks everyone!

Don't spam people. Try to offer a good balance of business and personal tweets. People will relate better and you won't be annoying. - @christianelden

How about:

"Great article: "Everything you know about linking to inflammatory blog posts is WRONG and why!" (really good stuff) [insert link]"
@smjdesign

-or-

"Wonderful post listing 9 out of the 10 things you already know about marketing. Read it now or your business will be over tomorrow! [insert link]"

Twitter: not for the misanthropic. @pauldandrea

Twitter: You've only got 140 characters, so make it short and sweet. Links, RT's and creativity make a great Twitter Tweet. @derekmcclain

Twittering is two way communication. Be responsive to your followers and the numbers will grow. @sunshinetricia

Here are a couple of thoughts:

Engage your followers by asking and answering questions to interact with the Twitter community. It's a two way street, not a one way alley. @DeniseMichelle

Be polite--thank those who retweet your posts. Send tailored direct messages when someone requests to follow you vs. a standard reply. @DeniseMichelle

Remember, your tweet will always be out there (probably even if you delete it). In the end, God and Google will find you out. @smjdesign

Here's my contribution:

Twitter does not make people interesting. People already *were* interesting, Twitter just helps us listen like never before. #twitterdummy

Twitter is another technology of tradeoffs. It expands your reach to millions, but limits your voice to the sacrosanct 140. #twitterdummy11

To understand Twitter, realize that Twitter functions at the speed and cost of thought: infinite and zero, respectively. #twitterdummy

The only way to get beyond the Twitter noise is with personal interaction. Get to know your followers. - @chucklasker

Don't tell me how to get more followers. I will unfollow you. Share with me, respond to me, and I'll share what you've got! -@mirandamccage
