Making people and ideas findable

What are some cool ways you're using Twitter? Either individually or for your business, non-profit, group, etc.

I've been using Twitter now solidly for about a month and I'm trying to determine what direction we can go with using it more. Looking for some creative ideas on what you're doing.

On the personal side, I use Twitter with my poliblog, American Values Alliance, using tweets to speed post little pieces rather than more lengthy posts. I have a feed on the AVA site with about 5 entries at a time listed.

Twitter has a search feature found at search.twitter.com that allows you to search through the entire Twitter universe for conversations about any search term. Real time information on any subject!

Also John Jantsch, author of Duct Tape Marketing put together a guide Twitter: “Beginner’s Guide to Using Twitter for Business

Twitter updates my Facebook account but there is a widget that I have looked at using on my blog pages that I think is kind of cool. You can let everyone know what you are doing in real time if they are on your page.

Example: I am working on drafting the new version of the Arecibo interstellar message..

I use it to promote my new blog entries, but I am avoiding using it on my Facebook or blog, because I often respond personally to someone via Twitter. So, rather than subject blog readers to "@kyleplacy how many people are at @thebeancup?" I leave it off.

I tweet via Twinkle on the iPhone. It also lets you follow tweets from people within a set radius around you.

....and it's mostly random garbage. Nothing spectacular.

I just started using Twitter a few days ago and have two followers, who technically are the same person. So I guess right now I'm using Twitter to remind myself that no one cares what I'm doing during the day. But I'm feeling determined to make them care. All one of them.

The upshot is, I've having fun condensing everything going on in my world into a few words. Very fun. Could be obsessive.

What's your Twitter handle? I think I'm the one guy following you.

The best way to get people to follow you is to follow them first. Have a few tweets in place so you don't look like a spammer (yes, there are those on Twitter too).
