Making people and ideas findable

I'm interested to hear where you think the best comfort foods are.

Meatloaf, fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, biscuits and gravy, chicken noodle soup, chicken and noodles, and so on. Comfort food means different things to different people, but no matter its form it typically hearkens back to a simpler time in life and may even be from a specific place.

For me, the cheeseburgers at Redamak's in New Buffalo, MI would be an example. A local example might be Yat's which serves up delicious cajun jambalaya, gumbo, and etouffes on rice.

Recently, I've found that a little place called Zest on 54th Street, by the Monon Trail, has some GREAT interpretations on comfort food. The meatloaf and macaroni and cheese dinner is to die for and their sausage gravy should be its own food groupl

But what are your thoughts? Where do you like to go when life gets a little hectic?

My Mom's homemade chicken and noodles, and my grandma's secret recipe stuffing - Yumm! Are the best comfort foods to me. The Oaken Barrell's shepherd's pie is awesome!

Oh, I'm a simpler girl. My favorite comfort food is a grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup, and dipping the grilled cheese into the soup. Yum!

Cheap mexican with a huge margarita...... when sick, hungover, stressed, happy, sad, depressed, anxious, celebratory....you get the picture - it makes me happy!!! Enchildades Verdes, Fajitas, guacamole......salsa by the spoonfuls!!!!!

Margarita? I think we're stretching the definition of comfort food. I'll allow it, but you're on thin ice, councilor!

It has lime, therefore should count as a fruit group and thus, be food.... :)

I'm with Becky. Margaritas are very comforting. :) My favorite thing to snack on is warm chips and salsa... Check out El Camino in Camby... Mondays and Tuesdays are margarita specials, and their food is always good. I recommend the fajita quesadillas.

absolutely agreed, though I'm late to the discussion. My favorite comfort food is the pollo fundido from the La Hacienda at Binford and Graham on the Northeastside - deep fried chicken burrito with sour cream and queso fresco. Amazing!

Does ANYONE in this town make a good chicken fried steak? I'm from the south and I haven't had a good CFS since my last trip back home.

As far as comfort food goes, I haven't had much luck up here in Indy, but few things take me back home as quickly as a really good steak or (as cheesy as it sounds) a Sonic burger. Sigh....

This is probably a northerner's cop out, but I have always enjoyed the CFS at Cracker Barrel. That's hardly a secret little hideaway though.

Ooooh Sonic!!! I know that's contraband here...but being from the south, it's a staple the same as chicken friend steak (only found at my house), good fried catfish, green tomato relish, and barbeque brisket.... Luckily GT South does have good bbq!

Where are you from originally??
