Side note: I manufacture the flooring grids shown in the picture below...keeps you from falling through the attic floor, but does not trap moisture which can cause dry-rot (You should NEVER put a solid floor in an attic - they are designed to draw moisture from the home and out the vents) -

Warning!! Shameless Promotion:
I have quite an inventory of reflective insulation as a result of overruns for building projects - anybody interested in getting your attic or basement walls taken care of before the weather turns bitterly cold?

Another shameless promotion: When insulating your walls with SMG Reflective Insulation, you create a thermal break between the block and the interior environment - eliminates dew point moisture and mold as a result - If the entire wall is insulated with this material and you lose power, you'll draw 55 degree heat from the floor (heat flows from warm to cold) and your pipes won't freeze!

Hello to All,

I use simples for cleaning - natural pine oil, peppermint oil and lavender oil with either Dr Bronners castile or an Earth friendly dish soap to clean. For polishing, I use Bon Ami with this and I don't have to worry about damaging health or environment.

I am hoping that some green businesses will be participating in the 4th annual "Simply Healthy: Creating Sustainable Communities" Simply Living Fair and Wellness Expo - Living Simply Well, Community Building, Eating Local and Eating Healing Meals, November 12 -14th, 2009, Bloomington, Indiana. Keynotes Diana Leafe Christian, Author and Editor of Communities Magazine presenting “Sustainable Living in Community: Ecovillages, Transition Towns, and More”and we will have someone speaking on Healing Properties of Foods. Vendors, Workshops, Demonstrations, Local Food Dinner by Food Works for Middle Way House serving food from local growers and producers; Children’s Activities, Community Conversation Moderated by Marti Crouch and community leaders; Healing Sound Concert with performances from Tom Roznowski, Alain Barker, Daryl Breeden and Steve Pollitt, Deb Phelps and others. Thanks Lynn for the idea. I actually love the cleaners we make and use here at home. I love the idea behind Tracey Clean and may look into her laundry detergent although I would really like to find a green "recipe". I hope others will try her products and help support the local economy as well.

Kelly, I've done the Next Best thing to making them at home: I buy locally made safe products from Tracey Clean...they are great. I use her laundry soap (smells clean, not chemically) and does a great job. But I don't have an HE washer yet, but it claims to work either way ...I do know that it takes amazingly little to work well. If you are not familiar with the products, go to www.traceyclean.com Good stuff! available lots of places around, and supporting the local economy as well as the environment!

Our family makes all of our own cleaning supplies out of hydrogen peroxide, vinegar, borax & baking soda. All of the products we make work wonderfully! I have not bought commercially made cleaning products for over a year. I have not taken the plunge with laundry soap yet. Our HE washer claims to only use the expensive name brand stuff. Anyone have a "recipe" for green laundry soap that works in HE machines? Thanks!

Don't throw away those coffee grounds and filters. Compost them, create some dirt. Plus read a list of ways to use your coffee grounds at Fresh Coffee. This is one small thing to do for our environment.

My wife and I have discovered that we recycle so much that we only need to take the trash out every 3 weeks or so. Has anyone 'negotiated' with their trash service? It seems a waste to have them come when not needed.
