Smaller Indiana

Making people and ideas findable

Please list any and all web sites that are good for finding freelance work.

So far, I only go to SitePoint's Marketplace(http://marketplace.sitepoint.com/). It is mainly for web designers/developers.

I've heard bad things about rentacoder.com and I haven't tried it.

I've had mixed results with Craigslist.com, but I still keep an eye on it for decent work.

I used to use eLance.com years ago, but competition on there is quite high (esp. from overseas).

Are you looking for writing work or some other type of work? I can list tons of freelance writing sites. Like Noah, I have had mixed results with Craigslist.com.

From a similar LinkedIn group, I've heard very negative things about eLance.com and Guru.com. I have gotten a couple of freelance jobs simply through my LinkedIn profile. What type of work are you looking for?

Guru can be a good way to market yourself... but actually USING them to carry-out your freelance business is foolish. Both companies charge exorbitant fees to become a user that "only" pays a 10% fee to Guru... "Free" users pay 20% of earnings when you collect through Guru.

I have been with Guru.com for less than a year and no hit because others score higher than me get the opportunity. Too many international freelancer. I rather stick with local and work the way up. Stay away from Guru and Elance. Go to craigslist it is the best way to get around town. Also more and more people are doing bartering through Craigslist. Think about it.
