Traffic, Traffic, Traffic !!!

We moved out "to the country" 26 years ago. At the time, once you got off 465 at Rockville Road there were maybe 2 stop lights between 465 and 267. So much for the "country" setting!

Now, we face high volumes of traffic 7 days a week. I know there are plans to redesign the Dan Jones-Rockville intersection next year. Roundabouts are scheduled for 100N and Dan Jones AND 200S and Dan Jones. What about that bridge over the railroad on 267 that has been discussed by the state for 15 years? This is long overdue and is just as important as finishing Ronald Reagan Parkway!
The north-south traffic patterns are mostly being ignored by Indiana DOT. They feel they're responsibility is to keep the traffic moving on Rockville at the expense of the locals. We need that bridge AND with the new airport terminal opening we need the completion of Ronald Reagan. Thoughts?

Also need to address 10th St. and Dan Jones. We have Kingsway, Sycamore Elementary, now the middle school and a couple more churches building. Can we handle all the traffic going E/W and N/S on these 2 streets? We moved here 15 years ago, and it took us 6 minutes to get to 465. Now it's 15-20 minutes on a GOOD day, no matter if we take Rockville Road or 10th St.

When the schools, churches and new neighborhoods are granted permission to build, they should be responsible to be (at least partially) for the cost of widening these 2 streets to 4 lanes.

I completely agree. Not only is INDOT ignoring the North/South traffic, but improvement of US 36 is not on their radar at all. Yes, I believe that the North/South traffic is tied to the East/West traffic problems. Completion of the RR Parkway will help to alleviate truck traffic along US 36, leaving improved capacity for the rest of us (although rush hour will most likely continue to look the same).

As much as it pains me to say this, I think it is time that the various interests in Hendricks County should pull their resources to make this a top priority at the statehouse.

When the New York Central built the Big Four Railroad Yard about 50 years ago, the effect on local traffic was taken into consideration. The powers-that-be from the railroad and the state/county government got together and decided to build the bridge at Dan Jones. The deal was; the railroad was to pay for half and the state was pay for the other half and re-route traffic from 267 to Dan Jones, closing the crossing at 267, making Dan Jones the New 267. What happened was the railroad built their half (two lanes) and the state/county reneged and did nothing (they neither built the other two lanes nor closed the crossing at 267). This resulted in balled-up traffic which exists today.

Interesting info. Thanks for sharing. The latest information given at the Chamber meeting last month is that a bridge will be built when completing the RR Parkway. At least we know there is a light at the end of the tunnel and (appropriately enough), it's not a train!

Try going to Rockville and Raceway. It is a madhouse during lunch hour and after work hours. It's crazy. I wonder to myself where do they all come from? Plainfield? What wrong with Ronald Reagan? My wife and I were wondering when they going to get that Ronald Reagan complete. They have been putting it off a numerous times and we are paying for it. I am with you about Ronald Reagan thing. They are way past due.
