Comment by kevin young on September 22, 2012 at 5:49pm Traditional NonProfit Fundraising: Door-to-door sales, telemarketing calls, donor letter campaign, Gala event, auctions, dinners, entertainment books. Sound familiar? Some work, some don't, some work better than others. We know that traditional fundraising has hit a plateau. There has to be . . . A BETTER WAY.
www.TheGiftOfBuying.org is . . . A BETTER WAY!

Comment by LYNN MILLER on July 19, 2012 at 2:22pm The Fever Sell-A-Thon at Pacers Sports & Entertainment is here and we have great group offers for you! These offers are only valid through Tuesday, July 24 so please con...sider a package and help us pack the house for our remaining home games! Fever tickets are great for your family, employees and clients. If you are unable to use your tickets, you can donate them to a charity of your choice or you can donate them to our Give-A-Game Program, where we distribute them to local non-profit organizations where they are given to kids and families who otherwise would not have an opportunity to experience a professional basketball game. Donations are tax deductible. We are looking forward to a great second half of the season and I hope you can be a part of it!
Comment by LYNN MILLER on February 23, 2012 at 5:00pm Many of you, in fact most of you, are somehow involved with a Not - for- profit organization. Pacers Sports and Entertainment, as well as the Indiana Fever pride themselves in our Community involvement.
We have a program called our COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT(informational flyer available if you send me your e-mail). The program is a fund raiser as well as an opportunity to raise awareness with several sponsorship type elements including public service announcements, fund drives, presentations and more. I have worked with several organizations both large and small that have had much success from Indiana Organ Procurement (IOPO) Bed Time for Babies (a Sudden Infant Death support organization) and Officer David Moore Foundation as well as many others. I do 90% of the work and you raise funds and awareness! I have arranged a Suite during the Pacer game this coming Tuesday. I would like you to be my guest so that I may share more about this awesome event. I hope that you will join me (or send someone else that may be interested). Please call 317-917-3092 to RSVP

Comment by Cissi Sherlock on November 29, 2011 at 12:39am If they are independent legal entities they should qualify. Do they have existing D&O policies? (always a good thing). Whoever did the underwriting on those should be able to find a carrier willing to do the liability policy.
Historically, some groups of nonprofits have had problems getting mainstream providers to provide insurance and started their own funds - minority colleges are one example. It's probably not worth it to start your own insurance company, but some of these funds might be willing to accept your risk.
My last question is who is underwriting the other orgs funded by DCS? Those carriers are already knowledgeable about the market.
good luck!
Comment by Mary Armstrong-Smith on September 22, 2011 at 10:46am Nonprofit liability insurance: Help!
I am writing in the hope that you can shed some light on a troubling insurance snafu I have encountered in Indiana.
I work for Prevent Child Abuse Indiana. Our organization charters community groups called Prevention Councils throughout the state. We have three Councils in southern Indiana that have qualified for grant funding from the state Department of Child Services. In order for the grant contract to be finalized, these Councils must have liability insurance. All three Councils are nonprofit corporations. None of them have been able to obtain coverage because they don't have employees and they don't have a brick and mortar headquarters. Insurance agents are stumped as to how to even write a policy for an all-volunteer organization that conducts its activities and programs at various locations.
It's a catch 22--no insurance, no grant. But their nonprofit structure doesn't allow for insurance. Any ideas where we can go from here?
