Making people and ideas findable

Most churches want them turned off, but one North Carolina church encouraged its members to use their cell phones, BlackBerrys and other devices to help spread the word during Easter services.

Next Level church in Union County was alive with Twitter during the Easter Sunday service, The Charlotte Observer reported Monday.

"I hope many of you are tweeting this morning about your experience with God," Pastor Todd Hahn said before his sermon.

Seems several flocks are twittering these days (including Trinity Church in NYC).

Will tweeting in Church help or hurt the spiritual experience? Share your thoughts here

Here is a story that came out on the 16th about tweeting during surgery. It isn't like the surgeon says, "Nurse clamp this for me while I tweet." or, "scalpel.... sootcher.... i-phone." (Please forgive my phonetic spelling of sootcher, but I don't have time to look it up)

There is a designated tweeter who chronicles the procedure OR asks advice from other tweeter doctors all over the world.

That might bring you closer to "Oh God!"

Yes, you are correct that if you do not need a shepherd then you shouldn't be a part of a church. Many of us want shepherds though.

Chris, you know I love ya man, but you clearly don't understand the role of the shepherd. (In either instance.)

Re: "The "shephard" tells the flock what to think of these stories, rather than the flock learning the stories on their own."

So do you consider news reporters shepherds? And if so, are we all just a flock to the news channels? Isn't most everything that we read, watch, and share regurgitated information from somewhere? I guess unless, of course, you are creating all the news...

I am going to go out on a limb and say that a lot of the bible is news to a lot of people... I was reading into your comment, and taking what I have learned in the past from your discussions, as a knock against social media in general...

Funny... I thought the title was "Will Twitter bring you closer to God?" I was thinking that Twitter was a form of social media... I could be mistaken though...
