Why Indiana?

I'm curious what YOU would say to convince people to come to Indiana. Why should they relocate their families and their businesses to the Hoosier state? What makes the Midwest the place to be?

Sound off with the best reasons to be "back home (again) in Indiana!"

We are the "Midwest coast." Indianapolis Urbanistas are as cool as in any other city.
There are a ton of things to do in Indy - art museums, arts districts, art fairs, Broad Ripple shopping and dining, the Indy 500 & mini marathon, Heartland Film Festival, etc.
For nature lovers, Eagle Creek is the 4th largest city park in the country.
There are many lovely smaller towns throughout Indiana. There are college towns like Bloomington (IU) and Lafayette (Purdue). There are historic towns like Madison in southern Indiana, Amish settlements in northern Indiana, and quaint Oldenburg. There are a number of lovely rivers and great state parks.

I cannot speak for Indiana as a whole but I can speak about Indianapolis.

In 1989 my parents dragged me from the Chicago land area. At 13, Indianapolis was like hell surrounded by corn to me. I swore up and down that I would get into college far enough away and stay far enough away after graduation. I mean there was nothing going on downtown and everything seemed to close at 5 even on the weekends. At Christmas, they called a piece of concrete with lights on it the Worlds Largest Christmas Tree (so much better calling it the Circle of Lights). It all seemed so smallville USA

Then things got slightly better as I neared high school graduation. Circle Center mall opened and it seemed like a nice facility. But in the back of my family’s mind was how long until this turns into Union Station.

But something happened the city started to actually promote it self and the people bought in to the idea of downtown again.

Through college, I used downtown more and saw many, many others doing the same.

And then upon college graduation…..I stayed…….for multiple reasons:

5 Treasures like the IMA grounds, The Athenaeum, Crown Hill, and Eagle Greek
4 A good mix of local, regional and national businesses for shopping
3 A good mix of local, regional and national businesses for working
2 Easy commuting

And the number one reason I stayed in Indianapolis ….I can afford to live here for what I get paid working here and still have some left over to save up.
