Smaller Indiana

Making people and ideas findable

Our recent media survey revealed that Smoosiers are WAY more likely than most to use Twitter. Over 100 folks are following the Smaller Indiana feed. We send all recent activity into the feed. Is this useful? Or would you like to see a different or filtered feed of, say, just blog posts? And what else / who else are you following? Please share with us how your use of Twitter is evolvoing (for both business and personal use). Share your experiences here

Though, as long as you make the SI twitter account stop updating every time someone becomes "friends" with someone else, I'd be happy. Respectfully, I think the only more annoying thing would be if it updated every time someone logged on. ;)

I agree. I tend to just pass over the Smaller Indiana feeds on Twitter because I can go to the website for the updates and who just became friends. I really like the idea of having new or different info and questions on the Smaller Indiana Twitter! @KristieKreation

Haven't you ever experienced the thrill of your name randomly appearing in the tweet stream because you posted something on Smaller Indiana? I like the fact that it promotes the names of SI Members. As far as twitter goes, we are so behind every major U.S. city on both coasts and that makes me sad =(

I'm with the others -- just following @Smoosiers because of traffic.

I'm also following other commenters on the page: Kyle, Nicki, Noah, and I think Elizabeth and John.

I agree with most of the comments above, so will restate (just because I like to be heard)...too many 'friend' updates, no DM auto feed unless asking a question, no link in the auto feed and my #1 .. reciprocity is important.

Ditto.

Ditto with a caveat. I think the SI account needs to express a thanks to each and every follower. A simple DM thank you is extremely important, IMHO, but Cindy is right-- no links in an auto DM.

I just follow @smooshiers as well. I'll be honest, I loathe auto DM's. They gain an quick unfollow from me. But a timely, quick and interactive DM is appreciated. For example: "How do you use Twitter?" "What two Hoosier Tweeps would you recommend as a great follow?"

@Cindy Hartman - Absolutely!! Reciprocity is very important. I like conversations. I like following folks who are like me and people who are nearly polar opposite. A good thought, or philosophy is, to me, like a Rubick's Cube. There is no way to accurately complete it unless it's turned over, around and upside down a few times. It just makes solving it that much easier. To continue the Cube analogy, there are billions of ways to solve it, but only one outcome. Maybe the analogy breaks down at that point, but you get the jist. :) I may still hold the same idea, but I'm much better off for having viewed the other sides as well. To me, that's my most valuable and impacting use of Twitter and Nings like this. The exposure to new ideas, values, thoughts and philosophies. I'm much better for using Twitter and love seeing the different ways people use it.

I'm not really sure who I'm following from here, but seem to be most of the folks who have commented. :)

hmmm am I one of the polar opposites of which you speak, @davidinindy ? I adore the Rubick's Cube analogy, perfect for twitter.

@ noah and @ david which would you prefer, an automated follow and DM which states, ""We believe in reciprocity-- so we set an auto-follow and this DM to let you know right away that we appreciate the follow." 126 characters

No follow-back and thanks for several days because someone's on vacation?
