Smaller Indiana

Making people and ideas findable

Our recent media survey revealed that Smoosiers are WAY more likely than most to use Twitter. Over 100 folks are following the Smaller Indiana feed. We send all recent activity into the feed. Is this useful? Or would you like to see a different or filtered feed of, say, just blog posts? And what else / who else are you following? Please share with us how your use of Twitter is evolvoing (for both business and personal use). Share your experiences here

I like it! I kind of wish the SI logo was there instead of the INdiana state logo.

There are a ton of people I would reccommend following. The best bet is to follow me and watch who I am talking to and communicating with:

You can add me @kyleplacy.

I followed @Smaller_Indiana for a while, then I ended up unfollowing because i got a lot more information than I needed. I'd recommend just having blog posts (and replies) and maybe discussions (and replies) posted rather than ALL activity.

Pat, you're breaking the Golden Rule of Twitter...You're not following anyone. HA! So I'd guess it's just a news feed for Smaller Indiana. It's like everything else in Social Media, you get back what you put in. The success of Smaller Indiana reflects that model.

Agreed, Justin. Pat, you really need to jump in the convo! It's a toss-up between Twitter and Smaller Indiana for my favorite online networking tools.

I don't follow the @Smaller_Indiana, but I do follow @Smoosiers. The Signal to Noise is very bad with @Smaller_Indiana. @Smoosiers is much better, just posting the blogs.

John,

I had to stop following @Smaller_Indiana because of the amount of activity that happens on SI. I started the feed for the blog posts on Twitter, @Smoosiers for a couple of reasons. 1-I didn't want a Twitter monger to steal it, and 2-I thought that having the blogs update would be a great way to get more traffic to the blogs, as they only last a short period of time on the home page of SI.

@kyle

I'd be happy to change the avatar from the State flag to an SI avatar. Just send it on over!

And I appreciate that... it's actually followable.

The twitter avatar screen is square so the avatar needs to be square, like the flag. The other avatar appears as " ller Ind " which I kind of like in a strange way- but look at it through the lens of twitter users from NYC, Boston, the whole state of California, etc.. And let's not forget the thousands of tweeple from the UK, Australia, Scotland, Canada, Ireland, The Netherlands, Germany, Italy, China, Japan, Moscow....

What is the target participant for Smaller Indiana? What do you want to accomplish with the twitter account?

Justin is right, Pat, if you want to increase your follower base, you need to show you're following back. I recommend an auto follow with a DM that states... "Hey this is an auto DM to let you know we believe in reciprocity, thanks for following." (NO LINK) Twitter users are more likely to continue to to follow you if you reciprocate.

I really don't like seeing a blast of 3-5 SI tweets at a time. It looks way to automated and cold, IMHO

I'd rather see the SI twitter account not auto update at all. Instead, use it to pose the same questions you pose on the main section of the SI front page (which changes every few days).
