Smaller Indiana

Making people and ideas findable

Based on the number of job postings inside our forum, there seems to be a need for a place for folks to publicize job openings and for job seekers to find opportunitites. Seeing this need, James Welsh, created a job board in his free time and offered it to Smaller Indiana. We posted an RSS feed and linked to the board from this site. Since then a few dozen jobs have been posted on the free board, but even more jobs and other classified ads keep showing up in the Forum. The job board software is open source, so that application could be tweaked to better fit our needs, but regardless of its features, folks would need to use the app in order for ito be most useful. So what do you guys think? Should we make a concerted effort to flesh out the job board...and maybe even grow a classifieds seciton? Should we re-direct all classified listings out of our forum and force them into a separate area just for classifieds? Or should we just leave things the way they are? Which strategy would help more folks find jobs? And which strategy would allow for better forum discussions? Please share your thoughts here.

A click through on the front page or tab clearly labled for all participants to see. I would definitely click to see
who's there should the need arise. If I don't have a need to employ or seek employment, such ads on our
forum just take up space where, I think, we should be conversing, getting to know one another, reaching
consensus on issues, getting involved.

Thanks for the question, Pat. And Chris, of course we listen to what you say. lol

What are you looking to accomplish with your groups? General networking or specifically tech?

Hi Pat,

I would be happy to assist. I would be happy to build something like this for Smaller Indiana. Check out the following link and let me know if you would like for me to put it together. http://yougohosting.com/class/. You would be able to have a place for jobs, items for sale, barter, and I have Press releases but we could do something different if you would like.

I would do it at no charge and we can keep it completely free for people to post and search. No fees. Just let me know what you would like the domain name to be and I will get it done.

Yes, specific job board. I agree with Taylor, to keep it SI.
Chris is right...beware of spammers!
It should be vetted and cetegorized for benefit of all.
