Making people and ideas findable

Pat Coyle

What are your plans for the new "Super Tuesday"?

President Elect becomes President for real next Tuesday. Will you be watching from home? Will you be gathering with friends? Will you be in mourning? Or will you be in Washington to soak in this historic moment in person? Please share your plans here.

And don't forget to join us at the 4,000 Smoosier party at 5:30pm that night.

What a great image, Pat.

My friend and fellow smoosier Rita Light will be attending in person, and it was wonderful to hear the excitement in her voice as she talked about taking her kids. Whenever I watch an inauguration I am so proud of the U.S. We are blessed to live in a country where a smooth transition of power is a regular occurrence. VERY FEW countries can say that.

My plans include going to the 4,000th party to celebrate with my Smoosier friends, of course.

For all those going to the Smoosier party, or those looking for another way to celebrate, consider the Earth House celebration of music, culture and change. For those of you have not been to this cool new venue I encourage you to check it out. They have a great mission and great plans for the future.

The Earth House Collective at 237 N. East St. ( just a few blocks from the Rathskellar) is hosting an Historic Inaugural Celebration and restoration fundraiser on January 20th from 6:45pm – 11:00 pm featuring live music, keynote speakers, green vendors and grassroots organizations bringing real change to Indianapolis. This all-ages event celebrates the future we are building together and features a full musical lineup including Sarah Grain, TJ Reynolds, Kate Lamont, and the Grogan Violin Duet. The (Re)Collective Company will premier part of a new work that fuses dance, sound and rhythm into a new element, and you're sure to be inspired by the speakers who will take the mic between sets. The suggested donation of $10.00 will directly benefit the restoration of the historic site. More info: http://earthhousecollective.blogspot.com/2009/01/inauguration-event...

I am ignoring the day. No, I am not a disgruntled Republican. What I am is a saddened American. Saddened because I am disappointed in the quality of people we are sending to elected office. Saddened for the lack of integrity among the majority of them and for the selfishness and self-serving political parties that brought them up.To put it as Pogo so eloquently did years ago, "We have met the enemy and he is us."

I think that my home in Indiana will be a nice and safe place during the event, no state of emergency declared here.

Is it a holiday or something? I figure I will be at work with everyone else. I might have the webcast on in the background or something.

I am celebrating with a wild, happy heart. I have waited 8 long years for this--long, sad years. I plan on toasting our new president Sunday night with some friends and tasty martinis, dining out with more friends on Monday night, watching the inauguration between appointments on Tuesday, then going to Earth House with my husband Tuesday night. Finally! Someone in office who may just really give a crap about us. It is high time.

Everyone should be patriotic and spend lots and lots of money that day!

It's the Keynesian thing to do. . . at least in the short-term.

We're celebrating with a pitch-in at work over the lunch hour. A smart move by management as no one will be working during that hour at our place - we'll be glued to a computer web cast. Should be fun.

I am going to work tomorrow and ignore the events in D.C. at what will be the most expensive inauguration in American history. Hardly the message to send in a period of austerity. I wish him the best and hope you all can say I told you so. Let's see how things look in 100 days.

So, he gets only 100 days to make a statement? Whew - high standards Scott. We didn't get into this mess in 100 days, is it really realistic to think too much will change in the first 100?

Reply to This

That's about all they gave Mr. Bush before they tore into him. I don't expect him to solve all our issues in 100 days. The tone and direction of his administration will be evident by then. That being said, I hope he does well.
