Keep Indianapolis Beautiful Adopt-A-Block and Preservation Internship
April – October 2009
10-20 hours/week (flexible ~ heavier in the summer, lighter in spring and fall)
$420/month stipend, plus $50 gas and mileage stipend

The mission of Keep Indianapolis Beautiful (KIB) is to unite people to beautify the city, improve the environment, and foster pride in the community. For over 30 years, KIB has partnered with neighborhoods, the public sector, local philanthropists and companies, and completes 500 community projects each year. Last year, KIB, engaged over 40,000 volunteers in our mission!

KIB’s Adopt-A-Block program is an on-going block beautification program with a goal of involving more people to help keep their neighborhoods clean, safe and beautified. Each month every block is scored, and based on its cleanliness, is rewarded with flowers, trees, other resources and educational opportunities to continue beautification efforts.

KIB seeks an intern to help administer this program, improve its effectiveness, and enhance its impact in the community. Below are some of the responsibilities of the intern:

• Visit a portion of the adopted blocks at the end of each month and score each block on its cleanliness
• Notify adopted blocks of their scores and upcoming opportunities through monthly score letters
• Sign up new, interested blocks and communicate with them about program details
• Assist with events, such as the annual Flower Distribution at the end of May, and the Tree Distribution at the beginning of October

In addition, KIB would like this intern to asses the preservation success of selected past projects by visiting project sites, evaluating the state of the projects, and notifying neighborhood groups on how the lasting impact of their community project can be improved through maintenance activities.

This individual must have reliable transportation.

Areas of interest: community development, neighborhood revitalization, volunteer coordination, event planning, non-profit management

If interested, send a resume and cover letter to Sarah Grain at sgrain@kibi.org!
