Making people and ideas findable

I'm looking to do a little kitchen remodeling and want to get some new countertops. I was browsing around at Home Depot and saw they had basically pre-cut laminate countertops. While I like my Home Depot are there any places around town that have pre-cut countertops? I'm planning on installing myself but would like to see if I can a) buy from someone that is local and b) see if there's any more selection than the 4 types avail at the Depot.

Thanks!
-John

I would try Matt Shuckman at Olympia Stone off of 96th and Michigan Road.

Laminate countertops are the most cost effective countertop surface and when you see the full line of laminates available including some stone looks they can often fool the eye into thinking they are granite. I would go to the yellow pages under "countertops" and chose a professional fabricator close to you to view their samples and give you a price for the tops. In fact I would let them do the complete job holding them to the measurements and installation because this is not going to cost you that much more and the results will be first class. The edge details including a bullnose can achieve a stone look for you also or whatever edge you prefer.

Good luck. I think Plastic laminate is a good alternative for many installations and you will be amazed of the choices you will have.

John, I have a house that was built in the 1930's and had counter tops from the 70's when I purchased the house... I also went to the same types of places but never found an small business that was local that had pre made lam counter tops at a similar or less expensive price than the box stores. You could try salvage places but what I ended up doing was taking detailed measurements of my counter to Lowes and they plugged them into the computer and shot me out a price of $500 bucks which was REALLY good! I installed myself and was able to choose the laminate I wanted. Most of those stores will have Formica, Nevemar, Wilson Art as companies to choose from.

Hope that helps?

Hey John! Great to see you today. We have ordered 2 countertops since we purchased our house 8-years ago - both came from The Countertop Shop in Mooresville. Great selection and great prices. They'll come out measure, cut it and you can install or they can install. I've referred a couple of friends of both have been very happy.
