Smaller Indiana

Making people and ideas findable

This link is being passed around on Twitter and I thought it was an important one for us to be aware of. Some of the dishes that we order, thinking that we are opting for a healthier choice at some of our favorite restaurants are just the opposite... With 100+ grams of fat and thousands of calories, it's no wonder we have such a hard time keeping weight off!

After reading this article, will this change your dining out habits?

Stunning! Not good for Chili's.

I also found some great info in the Eat This Not That books. Some big surprises in the supermarket.

Reality is that stuff that is bad for you tastes good. Stuff that is good for your in harder to prepare in a way that tastes good. Throw in a little handful of stress and a pinch time crunch and you have perfect conditions for being overweight.

Nicki, I used to love the rolls at Logan's Road House - until a server told me they have 800 calories without butter...I still love them - but now I know I have to skip dinner if I want one... Here's another link along the same lines as the one you posted.

No offense but those don't really surprise me - and looking at the establishments don't surprise me as well. I mean Awesome Blossom's, Deep Dish Pizza, etc. don't ring "Healthy" to me - yet, I still enjoy some of these items :)

The reason we are fat is not because we eat these - it's because we OVEREAT these AND we don't move/aren't active. There is a simple formula for losing weight - burn more than you consume!

I definitely get what you are saying, but it is still very, very shocking that all of these things, even the "healthier" selections, like the chicken and broccoli or tuna sub, have more fat and calories than a Big Mac or anything else on the McDonald's menu.

I am guilty, hence my recent heart attack. Don't fall for the food seduction, it will kill you. Now I ma eating healthier and exercising, but it's a long road back. I am also considering weight loss surgery, but will hold off as long as possible while trying more conventional approaches. But we all need to be smarter about what we eat.
