Smaller Indiana

Making people and ideas findable

How many of you know that we have a roller derby team here in Indy? I used to work with Roller Dex, one of the referees, so I knew about it as it was starting... I'm assuming that there are several people that are still unaware of them.

Here is the website, and you can get the schedule there!

One of the members here on SI, Toni Carr, is Joan of Dark. She's also a co-owner of Strange Brew in Greenwood and an author.

I did not know that! Thanks for sharing that, Rae!

No problem. Pop by Strange Brew in Greenwood some time and say Hi. It's an excellent coffee shop.

Will do!

Anyone who hasn't been, it's a must see...and for real fun sit in the "suicide seats" and you might take home a roller girl souvenir or two home (and possibly to the doctor) with you.

And don't forget the Circle City Socialites - http://circlecitysocialites.org/ - sort of "minor league" roller derby.

Thanks for mentioning the Socialites, Brian! We're so lucky to have two fantastic roller derby leagues here in Indianapolis.

No problem! And keep us up to date on the CCS happenings!

I didn't know about the Socialites! Thank you for sharing that with us, Brian!

Kelly, do you post your bouts in the events section?

No problem. It's a guilty pleasure of ours over at the Trolley Dodgers Podcast ;) New episodes are coming soon after our Holiday Hiatus.

Hi Nicki - we haven't posted events previously (I'm new to Smaller Indiana, and our league is entering our first season) -- but I'll definitely do so in the future. Thanks for the suggestion!

I definitely encourage anyone who hasn't yet attended a roller derby bout to come out to the first Naptown Roller Girls bout on January 10th. :) Check out Nicki's links above for details!

I second that recommendation, Brian. It is truly awesome and the Naptown Rollers have some of the better players in the league - like Blaze. She's incredible. The suicide seats are a must. Do realize though that there is plenty of tailgating allowed before the event just like pregame of a college football or Colts game.

Highly, highly entertaining and every one I have been to has been a packed house!

Thanks for the heads up! I'm going to see if my daughter would be interested in attending.
